  • If you don’t know what this is, please read this: http://rm.livejournal.com/727358.html
  • This story was originally written in late-2001; despite a recent tune-up, it is in no way compliant with the current state of the HP universe.
  • Your feedback and commentary are always welcome, even for a time capsule such as this.
  • If you’re looking for slash, het, poly, Book-6 compliant Slytherin backstory please visit Fascilis Descensus Averno a WIP written with [livejournal.com profile] kalichan. It features Severus Snape, Lucius & Narcissa Malfoy, Bellatrix & Rodolphus Lestrange and Regulus Black and mostly takes place in 1979 – 1981 but has forays both significantly forward and back in time. It is also a multimedia project.
Disclaimer: It’s JKR’s world, I just mess about with it.

"Please, call me Albus," Dumbledore said with a warm smile as he sat down and gestured for Allosia to do the same.

"Alright," she nodded, fighting off some small hesitation. She was nervous, nervous that this was about the scene in the hallway earlier, or her class with the 6th years, or specifically about her and Severus.

As if reading her thoughts, which she realized from his faint smile was Dumbledore's typical mode, he said, "I know how difficult Severus can be, he's like this with everyone."

    Allosia gave him a look.

Dumbledore chuckled. "I know you two have a complicated past. I do still remember things from time to time. It's difficult for him, to have you here."

    "Clearly,” she said tersely.

"You are a most tangible link to his past, Allosia, and to him, your first years here, probably seem like several lifetimes ago."

"Don't they to everyone?" she asked, softening only mildly.

He smiled sadly then. "These have been interesting times."

"I miss him, you know, somewhat,” and she couldn’t help but fidget slightly with the seam in the sleeve of her robe.

"But he's right here,” Dumbledore said, pleasantly goading her along.

"No, not really. I knew someone different than most everyone else."

"You need to look closer, although, I realize, with all that hair and the cloak, it's a little challenging."

At this, Allosia laughed, but found herself unwilling to say much else.

"Don't worry so much, especially about your classes."

"I'm really sorry about that, it's just --"

Dumbledore held his hand up and smiled. "Tomorrow is, I believe, another day."

    Allosia sighed, "One would hope."

"Have you spoken to Constance?" he asked, his voice taking on an edge.

"Not since right after the funeral, no," she said, understanding that they were talking about serious things now, even if not the actual layers of them.

"She doesn't blame you, you know."

"I worry more that she blames Gage,” she said with a slightly nasty chuckle.

"This was what he signed up for. As did you, as did she. This was a risk. You always knew that." Dumbledore leaned forward and patted her knee then. "You haven't grown tired of being the exception to the rules yet, have you?"

"I suppose not," she said, a bit put out by the description.

"Why don't you get some rest? I suspect you're going to need it."

Allosia laughed then. “Shall I thank you for filling me with dread?” she asked in mock outrage.

    Dumbledore just smiled.
