shopping

I bought a fabulous pair of desperately needed new boots today (the old ones are literally falling apart). While the heel is quite high, and therefore the books are somewhat unavoidably feminine, they are also chunky and period and look hot in my weird Regency-esque male way. So that's good. They were also cheap. And were _not_ the hothothot $250 pair of equestiran boots I didn't even really have to struggle to refrain from buying).

[livejournal.com profile] tsarina has pointed out that my fashion foibles are once again justified by the latest stuff from Dolce & gabbanna. Oh yes, I remember when everyone was all, "What is this, Adam Ant?" or "Why do you wear your pants tucked in to your boots?" Now I am the hottest thing ever. Ha.

Ordered neck stocks tonight. Yay. still having _serious_ problems as regards clocked stockings and breeches, although I may have found a solution for both, that qill probably require some alterations that I can probably handle. If I could find a pattern that was my size, I'd make the damn breeches, but I am a girl. A leggy girl, and it's not working out so well. Hell, I can barely find patsn to fit me under the best and most normal of circumstances.

Finally, because the HP house kneesocks at sock-dreams are the cutest ever, I'm all "hrmmm, what costuming thing could I do where I could wear those, since I am not going to dress as a girl (other than my Bella costume and the saree), no, for Phoenix Rising. Then it occured to me that while not canon, the Hogwarts uniform with just above the knee pants and said knee socks would be a) good for the NOLA weather and b) funny. Like, really funny. Right?

Really, really, REALLY funny. Particularly since my brain is now all "Little Lord Fauntleroy goes to Wizard School"

Exactly. Except so painfully opposite it hurts, albeit hopefully in a cute way.

You could easily swap it for any British schoolboy short-pants outfit and add the socks in and it would be canonically compatible if not accurate.

I'm depressed that they are such girly socks. Speaking of socks, if you run into green and grey argyles anywhere, let me know. I've been looking and haven't found any yet.

Have you seen the newest Dolce & Gabbana print ads? They're working a gorgeously hued sort of late 18th century vibe [in conjunction with a death theme, no less] that made me think of your dress sense.

This was what Tsarina pointed me too. Their website is a big frigging drag on my poor little computer though - will have to look more at work.

They're in September's Vogue and Bazaar [I think the latter, but most definitely the former], too, if you're at a newsstand.

re: clocked stockings

I have a knitting pattern for them. I can't knit them myself (still working on poor Bob's scarf), but you could, or you could commission someone to.

I love the new Dolce & Gabbana ads. The military cut of the jackets made me swoon. :)

Sock Dreams is yummy stuff. And I think that gray Bermuda-length tailored shorts, light sweater vest over short-sleeve shirt or just shirt with (if you can find HOuse colors) suspenders and tie, would be an excellent summer Hogwarts outfit for guys and very, very cute.

And three cheers for sexy menswear military clothing being all over the fall scene.

Saturday was the day for buying new boots. I also ended up with a new pair of boots although mine are ankle boots that lace and look very fetish, but more comfortable, walkable than fetish shoes would be. They are a thing of beauty. Now I just need to dress sexy enough to wear them. I think I will stand out a bit here is the ultra-casual city of Seattle wearing them, but I think I am okay with that.

I do love new shoes though. So I too will be breaking in a new pair of heels this week and trying to remember how to walk in an acutal pair of high heels.
