I've heard from ex's I don't or barely speak to (sometimes there's a story there, largely, it's just time), college peers I've not communicated with in years etc etc etc ALL MONTH LONG. I just got another one (this on the pleasant spectrum of surprise). I know some of you have gotten a lot of the similar lately.

What is with that?

And do you reach out to people from your dim past in September?

It's not that I didn't feel the urge when the weather changed, it's that I resisted it.

Interesting. There has been a rash of endings amongst my friends and acquaintances lately.

-Two parents-of-friends have died.

-Three people have been fired from their jobs.

-Several breakups.

WTF, mate?

I think we're subconsciously ingrained with the idea that September is the start of a new year. Perhaps it's our "New Half Year." But in the New Half Year, we reconnect with old friends and acquaintances. From the time we're young and impressionable, we start our school semesters before the beginning of Fall -- either at the end of August or sometime in September. Maybe as adults, even far removed from school or college, we carry the sense that when it starts to get a little colder there's a new year on the horizon, filled with familiar faces.

It could be that deep down we're trying to recapture that feeling and aren't consciously aware of it.

Hey, I just coined a new term for Rosh Hashanah. ;-)

I think you're right. For me, September has always been a mixed month, as I had a ten-year streak of Septembers wherein at least three people I knew (several years running, it was three family members) died in September. You get tired of September funerals....

But I think it is a starting school year, checking on old friends/acquaintances/family, settling in for autumn and winter....

Of course, I've also worked for twenty years in educational non-profits, so my "year" runs September-June, with July and August spent cleaning up the previous year and prepping for the new one.

I think I took this a completely different way than you probably intended, at first. I don't recall anything specific or particular about September and searching out people from my past I've lost contact with.

But as you said to another comment, it is like old home week going on or something. Seems this year lots of people are hearing from someone in their past that you wouldn't think you would hear from...

I certainly hope that isn't true that September is "Ghost of Christmas Past" month, because there are too damned many people I *never* want to see/hear from again.

Apparently I'm not one for nostalgia. Or reunions. :c)

I'm gonna go hide, okay?

It's the time of year when we hunker down, nestle in, reminisce, start to wind down and think of things we didn't accomplish, and one thought leads to another...

I also think it is cyclical throughout life, as I have had past friends & lovers contact me out of the blue just before or after major events in their life, ie. just before marrying, just before/after a birth of their child, a death, and on..

I see your b-day is in October, maybe people have had you on their mind, subconsciously or not.

I think yo may be about the same age as I am, and this is the end of many reunion gatherings, and possibly that has spurred contacts as well.

I have experienced this as well, and have had the thoughts to do the same.

It's always a welcome surprise, and I love the thoughts, etc. it all brings (usually). IN a way, it wouldn't be fall without these happenings, it just all fits well.

I'm wondering if this is Saturn return business, because that's an every 7-ish year thing, and I should be due about now (I'll be 34 next month).
