So [livejournal.com profile] descensus_hp of course, aside from stories has letters, newspaper clippings, objects, photos, etc. as narrative components. The Shoebox Project [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project also, of course, functions this way to a given degree.

So, does anyone know of any other HP fanfic projects that are not graphic novels but have a similar multimedia component? I'd like to create a themed list, and also maybe contact the maintainers of such things for a few reasons:

- to pimp each other's stuff
- to possibly develop a panel for one of the many upcoming cons
- to put together somethign to pitch as a story to one of the many HP-related podcasts.

Thanks!

I only recently heard about it (I've skimmed a few entries, but not read), but [livejournal.com profile] ac1d6urn and [livejournal.com profile] sinick's Hello, Half-Blood Prince sounds like what you're looking for.

Brilliant. Yes, thank you.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] prankstersguide does the same thing to a degree.

...if I only had a scanner.

I really like the idea of doing things like this, and encouraging more of them.

That's funny, because I thought of you and then was like "wait, no, her project doesn't do this."

Anything in the text which talks about Ivy drawing, I've probably drawn. Unfortuantely I usually sketch on paper, not having gotten the hang of doing it on the Wacom tablet yet for most things. (And fortunately, it's okay if my art isn't very good, since that's pretty authentic to high school art quality.) About the only thing I have up currently is some pictures of the students in Ivy's year I made using a now-sadly-gone icon generator.

I've been sort of toying with the multimedia idea for a while now on other projects as well; one of my friends is producing audio dramas, and occasionally suggests I write him scripts. I'm also playing with the idea of being able to include content in an online form that I can't have in a paperback - one of my sci-fi projects is wanting to include press releases in-world, video and audio, interactive quizzes and crap like that. But most of the electronic-age stuff isn't really valid for HP character-created works.

I think anybody with a gaming background has probably created maps, props and so on for games; I see no reason this can't happen for stories. I expect most people tend to prefer only one medium for their story telling, or maybe two, so muldimedia projects may be a bit rarer, or at least want collaborators. Not everybody can draw, write, sew, animate, sculpt, and collage well enough that they want to share work in all those mediums.

And for me, it's part of the writing process; I draw location maps of bloody everything (damn Hogwarts' moving halls), sketch characters and furniture and clothes, things like that. I've made jewelry and knitted things for characters, bought outfits with them in mind (which sucks if what they like to wear doesn't look good on me; Ivy's coloring and mine don't go at all, so it's a good thing she's not a chotheswhore like me).

Neither Kali nor I can draw at all, so we've sort of gone the "artifact" route for that reason.

and yay... cause we both totally buy clothes for the wizards sometimes. It's very weird. there was a week where I had to be pulled away from peach colored lingerie by force, repeatedly, because there was a lot "Cissy wants!" going around.

this is all so delicious to me. I can't wait to peruse... I ave a deep love for ephemera and multi-media art that doesn't involved blinky lights and noise.

I once convinced my lit teacher we had to read all the griffin and sabine books in high school.

Just read a multimedia fic the other day by [livejournal.com profile] crucio_4_coffee, The Unnatural Smell of Lilacs, here; http://crucio-4-coffee.livejournal.com/29957.html

This is amazing timing for me. I've just finished my first multimedia based fic, and was wondering if there were many others doing the same. I'm considering making it into a series, since I'm pleased with the response so far.

Awesome, thank you for posting. We'll definitely be taking a look (Descensus is co-written), and I may be sending an email to everyone working on these sorts of things in the next several days.

I found this post through the [livejournal.com profile] daily_snitch.
Not sure if it counts, but I'm currently working on a story in the form of a podcast, with music, art, and if I can find someone who knows how to include video footage, I'd do a videocast even. I expect to have it ready around the end of the year or beginning of next, depending on when the artwork will be created.

That is very cool and very fascinating. As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm probably going to be contacting everyone working on these sorts of projects (there aren't that many of us that I can see), about possible panel stuff for some of the upcoming cons and so forth (once my brain gets screwed back in after an event I'm attending this weekend).

Thank you for replying. Where will your project live when it's ready?

I forgot to mention that I'll be attending Phoenix Rising, in case you're planning a panel for that one.

I'm not sure about where the project will live - haven't reached that stage yet. I'll probably upload to the usual podcast places and pimp it on WIKTT and other yahoogroups and of course my own lj.

I'm also going to Phoenix Rising, so yes, this is what I'm thinking about if there are more of us. I'm also trying to go to Prophecy, but haven't decided yet. Okay, _definitely_ expect email.

I'm working on several slowly but surely with various friends that are just getitng off the ground: [livejournal.com profile] proven_theory, a Theodore Nott/Harry collab; [livejournal.com profile] brokenfire_room, a Theodore/Ginny; [livejournal.com profile] ginnylu, a Ginny/Luna, [livejournal.com profile] the_inbox, a more gen-ish, slightly Percy-centric one, and [livejournal.com profile] the_mailbox, which is mostly letters.

I also know of friends doing the following: [livejournal.com profile] defining_marks, a Harry/Charlie; [livejournal.com profile] under_the_cloak, a Harry/Ron; [livejournal.com profile] bad_intent, a Snarry.

All of these are fic/letter/possible art multimedia collabs.

OMG, what a fabulous list (with some really obscure pairings too)! Thank you so much! As I've said to others, you'll be hearing from me about something or other soon.

Haha, yeah, I'm a total rarepair freak, and Theodore's my favourite character, so hence the T/H and T/G. I may also be starting a Theodore/Graham Pritchard at some point. Oh! And I forgot to mention [livejournal.com profile] artistic_malice, which is Graham Pritchard/Malcolm Baddock.

A bit of a self-pimp here, but I have a few storyvids at my website, Blackbootdiaries (http://www.blackbootdiaries.com) under "Fiction and Vids". I don't know if this is the sort of thing you're looking for. Basically they're computer animated movies of a few minutes each with a subtitled story.

Very cool and interesting. Question: any chance you're going to Phoenix Rising? I'm trying to put together a panel about this sort of stuff.

At this point, chances are unlikely. If I should win the lottery or some such other unexpected financial event for the better that could change.

Glad to hear you liked the vids! I had a blast making them, and hearing from well-spoken people like yourself is what makes it worth it in addition to that.
