Some ridiculous shit called Australian Homemade just opened near me -- it's icecream and chocolate and it kicks ass. And it's apparently a chain so maybe this is the sort of things that's only news to me.

I had a dark chocolate candy with a cranberry and chocolate ganache center -- which is like so in keeping with my own somewhat strange food logic I couldn't believe it.

And the icecream! Very not sweet. Major chunks of brittle dark chocolate folded into it. Go. Go now.

And dude, it's next to Criff Dogs.

It's probably not near you (my ignorance of NYC geography is stunning), but in the Helmsley Building on Park Avenue, there is a Leonidas Chocolates. They fly the chocolates direct in from Belgium every week, because they refuse to use preservatives. I will admit that they are perhaps a little short of the really good fruit things, like the one you described (which sounds delicious), but for sheer dark (and even milk or white) chocolate luxury, I have found nothing to beat it, even in Europe.

(And now I can order them online and have them FedExed to my door, proving that I must have more willpower than I knew, since I'm not lethally obese and broke right now.)

Yup, I know Leonida -- very excellent.

ALso try Mannon if you ever get the chance -- similar freshness and it's mostly buttercremes with fruit. Excelent stuff. Bergdorfs carries them and Dean & Deluca I think.
