the more I think about this, the more I'm wondering why it isn't on YouTube, as a video. ;)

Sigh. Poor bees. Just out for a swarm, waiting for one of the gang to find a good spot for a new house, minding their own business and then WHAM! They should have never split off from the old hive in the first place.

We had a swarm like this one for a few days on a cedar branch. It hung quite low due to the weight. They left after a few days. When they are groiuped like this searching for a new home they are very docile and unlikely to sting unless grievously provoked.

The shot of the bees in freefall is pretty cool, though.

I felt pretty bad for them too. The whole thing is far more about the stupid human trick factor, than teh stupid bee trick factor.

years ago, when I was in Ireland, my roommate at teh time disturbed a beehive that was in our basement. And the house filled up with bees that she said seemed drunk and hibernating and then died. She collected them in a little pile and used them in her art. To this day, we all call her Bee Girl. Anyway, I got home from Ireland knowing none of this. As I walk in the door with the then boyfriend, she says, "I need to tell you something" which is never a good thing, but certainly rarely heralds "there was a bee event."
