Rome

Why do I find Brutus trembling as if he's about to fly into a million little pieces so hot? Seriously, that's peculiar, even for me.

Meanwhile, if anyone wants to do the contortions of writing some Rome-based Brutus/Mark Antony dubious-consent slash, please, allow me to encourage you.

Also, I want Octavian to be 15 forever. *is sad* Man, Max Pirkis is one fabulously creepy little actor though.

Ohhhhh Rome. I completely agree on the Brutus/Marc Antony.

Still have raging crush on Pullo. Not sure what to do.

I thought the first episode of the season was jam packed but I love Marc Anthony's strange mixture of arrogance, disappointment, and pragmatism. I think it is his voice. And with Brutus, it is is face, his eyes, and the hesitation of his mouth.

If you hear of good slash, point me.

It's so much fun seeing James Purefoy really getting to let loose. He's always in costume dramas where you can watch him go through the effort of restraint. He's got to be having just the most fun with a character like that (who is, you're right, surprisingly complex).

And good call on Brutus. I also think some of it is also that he doesn't look physically strong at all until he's dealing with his terror at what he's already done. That's fascinating to me.

Oh, I agree. I think you can see it in his performance. I think we are just getting to see the meat of his role now, and I, for one, am glad, as it is a pleasure to watch.

I also loved the hands in the bowl scene, Brutus washing himself. It could have been trite, but I thought it well done. Nothing like a stage mother propping you up when you are having second doubts.

The women are evolving into real shrews. I am waiting for Cleo to come back and spice things up a bit.

I really wanted to see M Anthony give his famous speech, but they handled that well. Better not to bump against Shakespeare, you can't win in that comparison.

Also having it recounted later by someone else I thought was incredibly effective -- this is how legends are made.

I also loved the juxtapositions of the shots of Antony and Brutus both being dressed for the funeral.

Yes, yes. At first I was disappointed. But as I saw it played out, I thought it more effective. Especially, the disection of Mark vs Brutus dialogue afterward in a post high school debate kinda way.

the juxtapositions of the shots of Antony and Brutus both being dressed for the funeral.
I am really loving most of what was in the first episode, camera angles, editing, etc. It is spoiling me for other series. Occasionally, the dialogue is anachronistic ("we were catching up"), but for the most part I am ahving fun.

I laughed when M Anthony commented that he had never fecked a woman in a funeral dress before. You know the writers are also having fun.

My respect for James Purefoy has gone up several notches from his portrayal of Marc Antony on Sunday. It's not easy to play a man who is, at his core, a beast, but at the same time has the ability to be crafty (even though he's essentially parroting the things Octavian tells him).

I personally found the sight of a bloody Titus Pullo standing in a room full of freshly killed men disturbingly exciting.

I'll add cookies to the collective bribe for that one. :)
