Despite being a Pretty Hot Nerd (tm), there are several points on which I fall short of being the ultimate Nerd God/dess. I don't know as much about comics and graphic novels as I should (despite being obsessive about those I am up on), I don't find thunderstorms even remotely sexy (quite frankly, they make me want to hide under the bed and considering how many stories I have that go "and then lightening struck the ground about 20' from where I was standing and knocked me off my feet" I think I'm entitled), and I don't have the Monty Python receptor site. I get why it's mildly amusing, but beyond that, and the whole quoting thing? Nope, don't get it.

That said, coming home on the bus tonight were two music college students who after discussing what is really the most played piece of music ever ("Minuet in G!" "Which minuet in G?" "Minuet in G!") started going through that business about the unladen swallow or whatever it is. But they were so charming and emeshed with each other that I couldn't help but think it sweet as opposed to the nerdly equivalent of sandpaper. When we got to the last stop on the bus the stupid driver wouldn't open the back door, and we all hollered for it at the same time, "back door!" -- and then they went right back to their little skit. For half a second, I was part of their little world, and I might have maybe even understood it, just a tad. I sure did smile anyway.

Meanwhile, bought lots of raw food because the good stuff is amazing and really good for the celiac situation. I've got these chewy raw cookies that are lemon, coconut, honey and cashews and taste like nothing I've ever had. Good texture too. Fucking should. Raw food stuff is obscenely expensive.

I lack the Monty Python receptor site as well. I get that it's funny, but I don't find it as wildly enchanting as my friends do. I've been listening to my friends quote it for years (and I do find some of the phrases funny and handy), and maybe that took something out of it. But I've tried to watch "HOly Grail" and "Life of Brian" and I was so bored that I literally fell asleep during both of them.

I didn't even know we were supposed to find thunderstorms sexy. I find them cozy.

Those cookies sound awesome- what brand?

The cookies are from "alive and radiant foods" which is located in CA and doesn't even seem to have a URL.

Thank you! Maybe I can find them at my local Whole Foods.

I haven't seen this brand at mine here, although I know all teh stores are different. I do see "Lucky Duck" raw foods a lot at the ones here, though, which I've always enjoyed as well. They do raaw macaroons that are salt, coconut, honey and maple syrup and have such a rich totally different than you think of macaroons tasting taste.

"and then lightening struck the ground about 20' from where I was standing and knocked me off my feet" I think I'm entitled)

Wow. I love thunderstorms and miss them (there are almost none on the west coast). However, the closest I've ever been to lightning was across the street from it, perhaps 50 feet away, and that's considerably closer than I ever want or need to be again.

and I don't have the Monty Python receptor site. I get why it's mildly amusing, but beyond that, and the whole quoting thing?

Nor do I - the whole British humor thing, from Monty Python to Terry Pratchett is utterly lost on me - at best it's mildly amusing, but mostly it's annoying. It's good to know I'm not the only one.

I think that many of the things you mentined that make you ' not nerd ' are really stereotypes. Consider that I am a computer nerd, but I don't wear a pocket protector, tape on my glasses, or live in my moms basement. Also the comic books / graphic novels ( with the exception of Sandman ) are written by friends, and Monty Python sticks with me becasue it was my first exposure to another culture at a young age when all the world was curious and new - the way some young boys are drawn to cowbows, spacemen, and so on.

Saying that a nerd must love comic books and Monty Python to me is like saying a gay person must wear a rainbow power T-shirt, or a hippie must wear all hemp clothing.

I thnk what does make you a nerd god/dess is your ability to absorb and successfully use technology instead of dismissing it or becoming a victim of it. As a duly noted reprensenative of the male geeks/nerds out there , our population could use more women like you.

What makes a raw cookie ... well , raw? I'm assuming it's a combination of the ingridents you listed, made into a dough-like ball and served w/out baking. They sound terribly good.

no cooked ingredients. It's just ground nuts, lemon, honey and coconut, partially dehydrated and pressed into cookie form.

I can't tell you why, but that just sounds amazingly perfect to me. I'm like ' tasting ' it already, and now I must go hunting for them tomorrow. It sounds like something Trader Joes or such would carry.

A health food store or Whole Foods. I rarely see raw foods in Trader Joes.

Me too, I can sort of taste it in my mind and I want it very badly.

And what are the graphic novels you are obsessed about?
