Watching S1 of Slings & Arrows, one of the female actors says something along the lines of Ophelia being the role that actresses dream of being able to play and my first thought was, "Uh, hell no; I only dreamed of playing Hamlet!"

Some years ago a local theatre, I think it was the Alley, did a production of Hamlet with a female lead. They played it straight; they didn't make Hamlet into a woman or change any of that; they just had a female lead actor. It was brilliant and critically acclaimed.
