I have a Difficult Last Name (that can sound like an insult) and I sort of enjoy withholding it (I have a compound first name and it can sound like I'm saying the second part is my last name) until it's useful to say it in someone's face and then look all faux-innocent when they are a little taken aback. Or, alternately, I can just spell it, though that has issues too.

I always wondered if my sister would ditch it the minute she got married but she didn't; I think it's harder to give up names you've defended your whole life.
