The invitation to the Hewitt reunion came today. Unfortunately for me, but luckily for Patty, she'll be away when the event occurs.

Should I go? I am, at this point pretty much making my decision on this one based on whether you all will be entertained by tales from the front.

(For those new to my friends list and not in the know, Hewitt is not my alma mater, but I attended for 10 years. It is an exclusive girls private school in NYC that is apparently less insane now than when I was there. Thanks to it I know a great deal about comportment and Latin and have a lot of pretty dreadful stories to tell about various DAR girls and other insanities).

I find reunions fascinating. Sometimes people haven't changed at all, and sometimes they've altered in astonishing ways. Tales from the front could be very interesting.

The tales from the front could be very interesting, not to mention fascinating.

I hope you get to stab someone with a fork.

I will certainly be entertained, and therefore I vote for "yes, you should go!"

I expect any stories from that reunion would be quite entertaining. Heck, that would likely be entertaining even without your flair for storytelling.

Oh, by all means, go! ~In an impeccable tuxedo and a gracious but impervious smile!

And, by all means, follow up on Amanda's advice. Stab someone (repeatedly?) with a fork.

Well it's at 6pm, so no tux. And it's in the library/formal dining room. I haven't set foot in that place since 1987.

Interesting choice of dinner time. How do they expect consorts to dress?

If it will be fun to talk about your books and your films, then yes. If it is just going to make you D: than no, no matter how amusingly you can report back later.

I dunno. You're tougher than me. I would not touch a high school or grade school reunion of mine with a grenade launcher.

My actual reunion at Stuyvesant was pretty good, but that was a different situation. This is like... the world that was never meant for me.

Nor should you. We found out Patty is eligible though.

Hell yes!

While the stories might be amusing, I won't vote for you to go if deep down you think it'll be awful. I have a reunion for a similar alma mater, a private girl's school down south here and am not at all sure I want to go. Horror stories, indeed. Although you would be returning as a v. interesting and glamorous person, which is a bonus.

Oh, and Stuyvesant? My brother (technically brother-in-law) graduated in '89.

I graduated in '90. Who is he, I might know him (the place was huge though).

Matthew (Simon) Cavalletto

I'd say he was a math and science geek, but it's Stuyvesant, so not v. helpful. :) He was on the debate team for a couple of years though--not sure about any other activities, other than computer geekery.

Oh my god. The world could not be any smaller.

We didn't know each other at school really, but we worked together for a time afterwards.

Wait a minute, did you work at a certain much loved but now defunct ISP? Or at a, again, loved but defunct programming house? (if the latter, then you may know my sister too.)

From: [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com
Much loved, full of drama, no story could ever capture it all ISP, yes.

Ok, I thought you were pretty cool before what with the regency ball and the steampunk, but now, wow, many points higher. :) I'm just sorry I came in after the light were out---the next project (Evolution) was fun, but the stories I've heard from before... I am always amused that the wikipedia entry is all about Bruce though.

(and my sister's piglet evans--she was around for some of that time, so you might know her too, there only being about 100 people in the world these days)

I was around for some of the Evolution stuff (the great Dutch government drama), although I can't remember anymore if it was on a professional or personal basis: it was a very screwy time (funny, in retrospect, but screwy) and I think I met her once when I stopped by the office after I had departed.

The world is very very small.

It really is.

I started working for Evolution after that, and stayed until the bitter end, then went over to panix for a while. It was both wonderful and odd at the same time.

So anyway, nice to internet meet you. :)

I went to my 10th High School Reunion.

As a "loser" of the class, I found great amusement in attendance.

I think you would, as well.

I enjoyed my Stuyvesant reunion, but this one is more complicated, as the only measures of success in this world are not those I possess.

Date: 2008-05-02 07:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] grendel.livejournal.com
What is sad is that they measure success at all.

That is why I was happy I went. They all achieved their measures of success: Ferraris, Senior Titles, high powered husband or wife and paramour but not a single one was happy.

I loved it.
