"Hi Jack!"

Date: 2008-07-06 09:15 am (UTC)I *know* it's her, today, but I could *believe* it was a him, sixty years ago, caught well-aware and wary, on leave or just off duty. I would wonder who was taking the picture, what he or she had said or done to *get* that expression on him. And I would ultimately hope it ended well, that he came home again, after the war, in one piece.
(NB: I'm an archivist in real life, and I once came upon several pictures like this one, only actually from the 1940s, of men at home either on their way to or from a war, posed in front of houses and garages in Newark. I never learned their names or what had happened to them, and wish I could have.)

Date: 2008-07-06 08:31 am (UTC)It could only be cooler if the hazy background image was actually you in femme drag.
Being me, I half-expect to see fireman gear somewhere in this picture; there's definitely a "uniforms" and working-man feel. (Narrower suspenders for dressier, I think that and the rolled sleeves and open collar are the working-class motifs. And the lack of a watch.)
suspenders

Date: 2008-07-06 08:54 am (UTC)Although from what I know of Torchwood, I wouldn't be surprised at all if there were suspenders-Brit-style involved.
Re: suspenders
Date: 2008-07-06 08:56 am (UTC)That's very fair.

Date: 2008-07-06 08:57 am (UTC)Meanwhile, despite the fact that I own a _very_ nice watch that doesn't look femme on me at all, I am crap at remembering to wear it.

Date: 2008-07-06 09:14 am (UTC)It's very odd* that He came came into my life about the same time you did, in ways quite unconnected with you.
It's very odd, because most of the Gods in my life aren't, as a rule, Egyptian. To quote a friend, I'm all about agro Celtic battle Goddesses.
But I'm a 21st century Gael, so He's most welcome, if He wishes to take an interest.
*I say this a lot, somehow.;)

Date: 2008-07-06 09:21 am (UTC)Is it an old piece? One made by people who had an active, rather than sentimental/historical connection with Him?
