In looking for something for me that will also fit Patty as an outfit for the holiday ball, I came across this page of things:

http://recollections.biz/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=sale

The $99 taffeta gown with the barely there sleeves (in green) with the belted sash in same and a nice hoop seems good and likely for a range of events and steampunkery for us both.

But can you guess what thing I totally don't need on that page I totally fucking want?

ETA: comments now totally hilarious

btw, I'd be interested in knowing what you do to put together your Mal costume. I might be interested in getting one together myself.

When I start the madness, I will let you know. The braces are what's going to be annoying.

Yeah, I can well imagine, though I'm sure you'll come up with a solution.

If someone else hasn't already. Firefly people are obsessive as fuck. I'm sure someone is making and selling at cons already.

The muff. Because the Jack coat and the muff, wouldn't that be like matter and anti-matter?

LOL! No, actually, but you hit the right department of crazy -- the skirt with all the different blue fabrics.

Agreed, that was a pretty dress, though with the weather as it is I'd've opted for the muff.

I was totally torn between the skirt and the muffs myself. Except I want to make the skirt into sofa cushions, which is ridiculous, but seriously just what I was thinking for the sofa, and I can't wear big skirts in the wheelchair these days. And I want a huge muff, but not those muffs.

If you wore a muff with the Jack coat, would that be mufti?

I'm so sorry, I couldn't help it.

Hey! Sounds like we have similar tastes in clothes on this one. I was just going to comment that I really liked this outfit.

Hi there! You don't know me, but I just saw and responded to a post you made on livejournal and it moved me enough to want to ask if it would be okay if I friended you.

I'm a single gal living in Atlanta making posts about my life and excitments. I was particularly drawn to how well-spoken you were, especially about health issues since it's my field.

Thanks, and welcome. I'm quite glad to see my comments there did not cause a shit storm.

Wow. I so didn't need to know that shop existed. At least they don't do 18th Century. :)

Keep in mind the chances are pretty high that Patty will need to take in the darts on the bodice. Also, you may want to put an extra short ruffled petticoat just at the top half of the hoop since their hoops seem to be incorrectly A-line in silhouette rather than dome-like. That said, for the money it's a decent deal. Green will look great on both of you.

And yeah, I thought fur muff too, but that could just be me projecting what I want.

Basically, I figure we'll stuff it for Patty and pin in the waist for me (hence that cool sash thing). And yeah, I'm not going to get _their_ hoop I think for just those reasons.

I might be able to get you a hoop to borrow. When is the holiday ball?

I actually thought it was that second velvet jacket on the page, but the fur muff is exponentially more hilarious.

That said, that's a gorgeous dress and a great find!

That's a beautiful dress. The striped skirt is also nice, and I can see why it would appeal to you. I'm also thinking the velvet stuff would suit you.

I have actually been eying some of the boot-length skirts to get for regular wear (you know my fondness for full skirts), so I'm not surprised you're looking at things on this site. And oh, yes to the green dress.

I can't imagine how they're selling this stuff at those prices. What the hell are they making these things out of? And who is doing the stitching, the house elves?

FUR MUFF!!! Hahah, I'm glad it wasn't just me and the pain killers.

Like everyone else, I immediately thought of the muff, but then I thought how silly and frivolous; far too obvious, but then I thought, "Muff is a funny answer." MUFF.

From: [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com
Muff is a hilarious answer.

Made more hilarious by a quest I went on several years ago to find one to buy for someone as a gift.

I remember when I was a little girl at church one Sunday in winter another girl had a little fur wrap and a muff and I was so jealous. I then grew up and learned what muff was slang for.

But sometimes I still really want a muff. :D

I think it was Laura Ingalls Wilder who had a lovely little new fur muff - or possibly envied a girl who had one. Or possibly it was Anne of Green Gables, but I don't think so. Anyway, I wanted one desperately.

Laura Ingalls' arch-enemy had a muff, and Laura was terribly jealous, and then she got an even nicer muff for Christmas.

I am sure millions of little girls imprinted on fur muffs as a result, between that and some muff-sizing in The Little Princess as well.

and reasonably good pictorial instructions on learning to sew with fur and make your own muff (which, I cannot stop myself from saying, can be stuffed):
