I haven't seen Watchmen yet, but I have to say, I find the opening credits deeply, complexly moving.

The whole thing is sort of like that, though I must admit seeing the Silhouette moving around on the big screen did kind of get to me.

No doubt. I came to see Dollar Bill (*sniff*) but Silhouette is like whoa.

Fascinating stuff. The imagery does indeed set the tone as I'm sure Moore intended; the only disappointment is that the typography is very much "yippee, superheroes!".

OH see, I loved that. I thought the typography was the bug clue to the knowing deconstruction. But my father fucking joined the army so he could go to school to draw comic books. It really resonated with the place comic book heroes had for us mid-century.

I loved the Dylan (makes me even more excited for the Felice Brothers concert next week), the concept looks interesting (yes, I lose major geek-points for not knowing about The Watchmen since before I was born), plus the cinematography looks gorgeous! I was sort of avoiding the hype, but I may actually have to see this now. Thanks for the link!

I don't know the story at all, but wow - that was incredibly effective storytelling in such an amazingly unique style.

Guess I'll be dragging the boy off to that next weekend!

The opening credits are a generous example of what you will experience. I was not disappointed.

I'm truthfully most worried about the pacing, but seriously those five minutes on the big screen will be worth it to me alone. That is some smart fucking movie making.

The pacing has its hiccups, but I was honestly often distracted by the design elements when that happened.

My bro-in law has several mixed feelings on the film, but was similarly struck by the opening credits. He reviewed it for Filmjournal.com here if you're inclined to read it. :)

Oh thank you! I was really concerned I was going to need to set up a lot of things for C before we went- its a complex universe to jump into. But this just summed things up so well! Beautiful!

I saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it. I've never read the comic, but I did go with 3 guys who had and were very into it. Their overall consensus was one of enjoyment, and they also really liked the way the opening credits told a story. They actually worried that so much info was being thrown out that I wouldn't be able to follow it, having not read the comic. But I really liked that set-up. Sure, I didn't grasp every little detail, but it set the story, you know?

I saw it Monday (yay early showing tickets), and it was well worth seeing.

I enjoyed it. I do think that the movie does not effectively do what Moore does in the comic - and I think that the change at the end of the movie (I won't spoil it for you), while it certainly makes the movie more intelligible to the audience-goer who is unfamiliar with the source material, doesn't really make sense in terms of the universe of the comic.

If you loved the comic, there are many parts of this movie that will ring absolutely true for you. That said, there are many parts where you will have to fill in the blanks intellectually to follow the deeper meaning of what is going on. I think the resolution is frustrating and confusing without that framework.

Also Nite Owl and Silk Spectre II hooking up is a scene you will either love or hate. I loved it.
