I am fascinated that everyone has gone mad for the 1920s - 1940s of a sudden. Some of what it is about is obvious, but some of it -- I can't figure it out.

Anyway, the latest deeply random (poetry + pre-war brothel theme) event that might be awesome (or totally irksome): http://www.thepoetrybrothel.com/

And I might be going to a swing dance thing Saturday. Or Sunday. Depending.

Of course, knowing me (and current circumstances) I might not go anywhere at all.

Meanwhile, WHERE ARE THE GREEN ENERGY INSTALLATION PEOPLE?

I am not encouraged by their choice of absinthe for their bar. Here's what the Wormwood Society has to say about Le Tourment Vert absinthe:

Not terrible, but not absinthe
A sample was generously provided by a friend.
The color is an artificial aquamarine. It reminds me of Scope.
The addition of cold water via dripper resulted in a very very thin louche.
The aroma isn't unappealing, but it certainly doesn't smell like absinthe. I get a lot of eucalyptus, some mintiness, and other medicinals, with a hint of alcohol heat in the end.
The flavor certainly isn't that of absinthe. It's very sweet and minty. Again, the likeness of Scope is remarkable. It's drinkable, but not as an absinthe. More like a Rumple Minze or something similar.
The finish is nothing to write home about. It's all mint and sweetness.
Overall, this isn't absinthe. I might consider adding some to my espresso as a substitute for Fernet Branca, but I'd never drink this if I were in the mood for an absinthe. The most redeeming quality of this drink is the packaging.

Of course I realize that their choice of absinthe may say nothing at all about the quality of their poetry, but I just like people to get these details right.

You know what I am mad about? Victory rolls. Except my hair is the wrong everything including length for them, which breaks my heart. And every time I have attempted pincurls, it just looks like I put my finger into a light socket. :/

Every once in a while people become really into the 20's-40's for some reason. I say just ride the wave of good fashion (hopefully) at the local stores.

That poetry thing looks kind of awesome, though I doubt I'd be able to get in. XD

I've got nothing, other than we've just gone through another damn reprise of the fifties, again, and people need a break.

Of course, the period in question is when modern Science fiction was invented, so maybe good will come of this.
(I am annoyingly optimistic that SF&F not only had the power to save my life, it has the power to save the world. Whether the world wishes to be saved or not.)

And any interest in the past, however feeble, has got to be a good thing, no?
