Hello, New People!

Wow!

Just to let everyone know, I'm on a very tight deadline for the end of the month while also trying to get the apartment in order for the return of my partner who has been on an archaeological dig for the last three months.

I will get everyone added back, respond to comments, etc., but it's probably going to take a bit of time.

In the meantime, if there's anything you'd like me to know about you or would like to know about me or you're looking for an excuse to chatter amongst yourselves on something other than ConFail, please feel free to use the comments in this post.

Yay, new people!

return of my partner who has been on an archaeological dig

Ooh! Which dig, can I be so bold as to ask? /history geek.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
She's been working in Oman, first on an academic dig, and now on one for the government prior to the construction of a hotel on a site in Muscat. She does bronze age stuff, but I don't know the specific dig names or anything.

What other cons do you go do (or will be going to this year?) You think Oddcon or Wiscon will be on that list?

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither are on the list for this year. I'd really like to get to Wiscon eventually, it's just always a schedule problem it seems.

I'm a guest at Dragon*Con, so I'll be there, and I'm not sure what else we're doing this year (I'm trying not to schedule until my partner gets back, because we both have heavy travel schedules, and I don't want to load anything else into it without comparing notes properly), although there is a possibility of Balticon.

I know that for 2010 we'll probably go to World Fantasy because it's in my partner's home town, and that I'm already planning on GallifreyOne. And, truth be told, chances are I'll be Lunacon again, because it's just so local. I'd also like to get back to Arisia.

Oh, and duh! I'll be at WriterCon this year.

[identity profile] sparta5.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I read in your profile that you're an actor. :) Which productions have you been in? Regarding fencing: epee, sabre, or foil?

I followed [livejournal.com profile] dsmoen 's link to your post about LunaCon.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I do historic and classical fencing. Right now my experience is mostly with foil, but I have a deep, deep, crazy love of saber and I can tell that's going to be the big focus moving forward, although I am also looking forward to doing smallsword since the foil is the training tool for smallsword and it is the weapon of one of the eras I play in most.

Acting. Things of note would be that I had a small role in Revolutionary Road and got to do the Lady in Macbeth when I was in Australia. "Big" NYC productions I've done would be Forget Me Not with PRAXIS that involved me waltzing with audience members while telling them secrets and then later helping them into coffins that were then wheeled out of the theater and a small role in a production of Counsellor-at-Law that got a lot of attention a few years back.

It was great to meet you and chat in the bar on Friday night! Listening to the stories of Conventions past was one of the highlights of my weekend! :)

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It was lovely and very fun. I'm glad you've caught up with me digitally.

I added you via my sweetie [livejournal.com profile] tenacious_snail who opined that you are nifty.

I definitely agree with her.

And I posted something similar to this, a few days back (http://the-ogre.livejournal.com/477331.html).

I recognized your name from there! You were in before the hordes! Welcome.

[identity profile] eibii.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm amazed I had [livejournal.com profile] wordsofastory on my flist for so long, but completely missed you somehow. This has definitely been rectified. Rock on.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-03-23 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh -- I just saw you had her friended and I was like "oh, who's that?"

[identity profile] fmanalyst.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
When I saw your post appear on metafandom, it dawned on me that I hadn't gotten around to friending you, so I thought I better rectify that immediately.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahha! Welcome. We've certainly chatted enough elsewhere.

[identity profile] dedra.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Followed you home from [livejournal.com profile] metafandom. Friended because you're interesting. :D

♥ the con pictures (okay, so I scrolled a bit XD) I don't know Torchwood (something that I apparently need to rectify) but the pictures were interesting and you looked very comfortable.

Plus, you have common sense and manners. That alone is worth friending.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

Torchwood is awesome, but has tone variance problems -- I suspect Season 3 will be when it pulls itself together. The fist two seasons range from really exceptional, dramatic narratives about betrayal to OMG that guy's half-robot girlfriend just got sprayed with BBQ sauce and eaten by his lover's pet pteradactyl. I am not joking. It's a weird, weird show.

[identity profile] shadowravyn.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
By the way, I've friended you. I'm thinking sharing tawdry stories on hotel couches count as all the necessary prereqs for friending.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay.

[identity profile] silmaril.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Um. So, yeah, that happened, and I added you to my reading list too. Because I always like having interesting stuff to read, and you seem to have interesting stuff to read.

Me: Engineer, currently residing in Maryland. Feel free to add back or not as you wish.

Hi. I very much enjoyed the Canon Slash panel Friday at Lunacon (and I recognized myself a couple of times in that earlier post. I apologize for those things and will endeavor to not repeat them.)

But the panel was a lot of fun, and you even managed to keep it more or less on topic!

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-03-24 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi! I recognize you! Let me tell you, I'm on my list of bad behavior too (which I think is one of the points of my post -- it's a slippery slope that we all go down together!). I'm glad you enjoyed it; I felt bad we meandered so much -- too much enthusiasm. I also realized after we never discussed the Dumbledore is Gay thing, and felt really dumb about that.

Anyway, welcome!

*waves* I can't believe I started the friending meme at [livejournal.com profile] doctorwho_ny and never friended anyone. *is Hilary*

Here is my latest hello new readers post which mostly covers stuff. I'm very bad at starting/joining conversations so I'm not sure how much we've actually talked at the DWNY meetings (I'm much better at speaking up online).

Hi.
I'm very new to the world of livejournal and am currently building up an friends-list.
I've friended you because I want to keep track of your fics (+ the comments readers leave on them) and find your meta/general posts very interesting.

Marc

Hi, welcome and thanks for saying hello. Because I tend to pop my head out a little more than others, I'm sometimes the target of unfun drama online, so I tend not to friend back journals without much content if I don't know what the story is. Introductions make everything better (usually) though. So welcome!

Hi! Just letting you know I'm friending you after finding you via metafandom, and also reading your "Watchmen" post.

Hi! You keep being, she said, handwaving, in places. That place, and that place, and that other place, and here, and also in that location.

Friending is saner than chasing! Also, chasing is creepy.

[identity profile] amand-r.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I keep running onto you on LJ (and I think I wrote for you in Yuletide once, for which, I apologize profusely.) so I agree with [livejournal.com profile] weds, that friending is must easier than strange quasi-stalking via linkage. I'm mostly harmless.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-03-29 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome! I'm terrible with names. Which Yuletide piece? I've enjoyed all of mine, so don't apologize! (I feel bad, my poor recipients always get typos!)
