  • Last night we went to see Richard III: An Arab Tragedy which was awesome and I will write about it later. We also ran into a ridiculous number of people we know.

  • Four tiny peppers! (ETA: Patty just paged to say she found a paprika plant for us too! YAY!)

  • OMFG the new Torchwood promo shot. I can't stop staring at it.

  • Have read all the spoilers for S3, ep 1. TW remains the only fandom where the show is actually crackier than the fanfic.

*stares with you* Jack's eyes are freaking me out a little for some reason...

    *clicks link*

    *stares*

*remembers to breathe, just in time*

    Um.

    Er.

    Wow.

I, er, need to have a little lie-down now. Or something.

The eyelines are fascinating me: Jack looking at the camera, Gwen looking off to the sky, Ianto looking down at the ground. Also the postures and physical links: Ianto's hand on Jack's knee, Jack's hand on Gwen's arm.

I think that from here on out I will try to avoid spoilers. But yes, TW is crackier than fanfic. In fact, TW fic tries to make TW canon serious and sane.

OMFG indeed. I emitted a sound that - well, I may have actually, literally squee'd. The hand on the knee. The hand on the arm. The piercing Torchwood Is Srs Bznss glare. Instantly becomes my new wallpaper.

    Wow.

OMG... Ianto's going to die isn't he *wibble*

    Ahem...

Say, has there been any discussion that I missed about the fact that none of the promo pics show Jack's Vortex Manipulator? It appears to be a significant absence, but I dunno.

He's totally not going to die (at least that's my bet). I think that "spoiler" has been fairly debunked by now.

Really? Hmmm, I guess I'm just pessimistic.

And the vortex manipulator? Any talk or discussion of its lack in the promos? Or am I reading too much into wardrobe booboo.

    Date: 2009-06-13 04:34 pm (UTC)
    From: [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com
Now that I've read the spoilers for ep 1, the reason seems very clear. It's not a wardrobe mistake.

    Ah ha... I see...

If you don't want to link the spoilers, could you send a private message? I'd very much appreciate it :)

    Ta.

Wow. Wow. I went over there and read the *first* page, and decided to back off. That's some pretty thorough spoiling!

    Thank You!

I don't consider myself a TW fan normally (much more Dr Who) but I have only one thing to say -

    Triple Threat.

And Gwen looks tasty in leather!

I love it when pictures tell a story. This one is a flipping novel. I just hope it's not a masterwork of misdirection as some of the promo photos have been.

But let me get simpler here: holy trinity. The angst is laid on with a trowel, yet it's not sticky. Um...yet :)

    It's AMAZING, isn't it?

    Like so dead on:

Ianto, as ever, being preoccupied with his own shit and everyone assuming he's fine and he can handle it, and maybe he can, but he sure doesn't think so.

And Jack putting duty (and his own ego) before most things, and as usual thinking he has to stop Gwen, from being, well, Gwen, while Gwen's all "sorry, distracted over here, because it's not actually about about you boys).

    it's just GREAT.

I thought....that it was rather like the direction of their faces: Ianto-past, Jack-present, Gwen future.

It says a lot about how they look at things, too. Ianto--inward, Jack-- head on, Gwen--idealistic this is the way the world should be, etc etc. That one doesn't mesh as well as the previous, and once again, except for Ianto, I think the trinity fits here too. Jeez, he comes off badly no matter how I splice it.

I'm intrigued to know who is staging these photos or if the actors are using their own interpretations, but amazing nevertheless.

I have the urge to write in defence of King Richard III, but as the play was probably nothing to do with him, I'd be making a fool of myself, I just can't help myself though whenever I see his name.

That photo is amazing on so many levels. It's gorgeous, first off, and the differences in the angle of their bodies and gazes, the way they're touching...just wow, I love it. There's so much to stare at, each time I look at it.

I'm fascinated by the way Gareth David-Lloyd is positioned. It's apparent that they had to come up with a way for a tall man to have his head at the same level as Eve Myles's head, so he's got the odd half-recline with his legs to the back, but the effect is to give him that closed posture which is totally in character. I want to know who the photographer is to pull that picture out of them and have it resonate so.

Last series, the stills photographer was Adrian Rogers - there's a clip of him at work on the BBC's Torchwood S2 site, under the extras for Adam.

    http://www.adrianrogers.com/

As he's in Cardiff, I should think it's still him.

Really, the way they're all positioned is so fitting. Gareth's position is in particular really compelling. It's uncommon, honestly. I just really adore this picture.

Wow, I guess I'm just a simple mind, because I really don't read Ianto = death and or past in the pic. To me, it conveys exactly what GD-L has stated Ianto's state of mind would be during the first episode. That being, he feels sad, lonely, and unsure of his relationship and importance in Jack's life. Additionally, it conveys to me that he continues to internalize his feelings as I believe was mentioned up thread. The pic very much puts me in mind of S2’s Ianto in Adam, TTLM, EW, and DW’s Stolen Earth.
