[livejournal.com profile] rexluscus points to this awesome Face of Boe story from [livejournal.com profile] concertigrossi. You'll be reading along going "this is good," but not feeling like it's necessarily a significant work, and then, if you're like me, you'll get to the end and totally freak out and have to go cry in the bathroom at work.

It's awesomecakes.

I have to confess I've been dicking around with melodies all evening, and may record something to email the author. If she's amused I'll share.

I think I can safely say, with some authority, that the author would not be amused so much as thrilled beyond words.

Give me another day... I want it to work. If you had anything in your head for it, please let me know, as I've got one I'm playing with that's very lullabye and is a gentle little soprano of a thing, and another one that's more low and otherworldly and weird -- sorta like the stuff the Dead Can Dance chick does.

Please, take as long as you need, I certainly didn't want to add pressure. :) Seriously, I didn't think people would think much of this fic at all, much less want to write music for it. I've been going around with a big, goofy grin on my face for the last two days. And when I saw your post there about the music, I had to e-mail a link to a friend, asking, "Is she talking about MY fic?" :)

As for what kind of music.. when I was writing it, I had been thinking of something along the lines of a Gregorian plainsong, something that would echo in a sacred space... definitely trending towards the otherworldly and weird. :) (Do you mean like in "Devorzhum?" Because I LOVE that song...)

I expect it started out as something like a gentle lullaby when he first conceived of it, but morphed, especially once he started teaching it to other people... so really, either interpretation will work, so, and I mean this sincerely, go with whatever your inspiration tells you will work best. :)
