I believe he suggested that fic readers and writers engaged with fanfiction because they were too afraid to admit their nasty icky kinks to the real world.

Now I've had some thoughts very like his assumptions
When I was 15.
And at the tale end of an emotionally repressed upbringing.
So I had an excuse.

Also I tested my assumptions before acting on them, not after.
*shakes head*

I suppose this is why I count myself lucky to have found enlightened, stimulating people like rm and the commenters on this LJ.
