when law can make anyone be civil.. i will dance a jig

the law doenst make anyone civil to me... heck, i stil have people throw things at me, break my windows, slash my car tires..
how is legalizing gay marriage or not, going to "make" anyone be pleasant????

Note that I said "obligated", not "forced".

There's a complex interaction between social mores and laws, and those who are against gay marriage don't want there to be overt pressure for them to see gays as fully normal.

Also, if gay marriage is legal, those who are opposed to it will have to decide on just how rude they want to be. I've met more than one person who's bigoted in theory, but who doesn't want to directly hurt people's feelings.
