  • You know what I am sick of? The periodic stories on the murders that actually do happen in Manhattan (NYC is the safest big city in America) that essentially say but nice white people live here now, how could there be murder? It drives me mad, and makes my city look worse, I think than the occassional bit of inevitable violent crime.

  • I have started my Yuletide story, although at the moment I don't like it much.

  • I've not left the house today, which was a little bit stupid. I did do a great deal of work from home, but could have done more if I'd gone into the office.

  • I am currently staring at ConSweet which is relatively high on the list of things I want to be working on but not at the top of the current priority list.

  • City moves to lift bee ban.

  • NASA wants to sail the seas of Titan.

  • Sure, there's lots of great products for people with celiac-disease out there, but this is the sort of paranoia I have to live with about it. Every time I try something new, I have to try it with the expectation I might get really sick.

Crime all over the US has gone down dramatically in the past couple of decades - and our fear of it has risen.

I'm also a little appalled by that article's suggestion that if the murdered men were involved in drugs, it's not so bad that they're dead.

I dunno. I'm guilty of thinking the same thing about some people I know of that are in the trade, and people I have encountered. I know it's a horrible thing to say and after thought maybe retractable - but when I see someone slinging bullets without a care to protect their illegal and dangerous trade I can't help but think that the world would be better without them.

I'm still following the murders of Jennifer and Taz. Murder is different when you know them victims ( says captain obvious ).

I am SO infuriated by the bread selling scam artist guy I can hardly type. This is why I cook/bake for myself and I'm not even an officially diagnosed celiac. I just feel better if I don't eat gluten. *fuming*

The bread thing....that's horrible. It should be criminal - he did serious harm to people.

I'm definitely boosting signal on the GF story. There should be more that can be done. This is why I'm terrified to eat much of anywhere except home and if we make it here.

That's shocking about the bread! No wonder I have friends who insist on doing their own baking, as if it isn't difficult enough!

Yay bees! I wasn't aware there was a ban on keeping bees though (and I've thought it romantic notion since Pushing Daisies ;) I'm in a suburban area where there are still bee keepers, I feel so lucky to get fresh honey, I even have a friend who I can buy fresh eggs from )

The celiac story is such a horrifying betrayal of trust. Will boost the signal on Twitter for GF friends.

Drive-by from friends-friends -- thanks for posting the link about the bread company. My parents live near Raleigh, and my mom has celiac. They've been getting Great Specialty products, because they actually taste good. Mom ended up in the hospital over Thanksgiving because of an episode of what she calls the worst nausea and vomiting she's ever experienced, and couldn't figure out why she was so sick when all she had that day was a "gluten-free" bagel. I mentioned that post to them right before Mom put in another order.

    Glad it helped.

I got it off the [livejournal.com profile] celiac community, which often annoys me ("no, chickens do not contain gluten"), but sometimes has useful information. I'm sorry to hear your mom got so ill, but I'm not surprised. Compared to my symptoms that kid with the rash got off lightly.

    wyrmie,
If you check out the comments, near the bottom the author gives contact info for where to file a report with the agriculture department. You should definitely make sure that your parents file the info about your mom's hospital visit!
