Home. Really, really home (oh my god, our bed is SO comfortable). I think it helped this morning, racing to work on the FDR Drive. It makes it like New York cares about its water, and I think, too, that's why London and Cardiff resonated for me so hard. I only like places with water.

There are, of course, a hundred things I need to catch up on. Banking crap, mobile company crap, talking to my publisher, edits on a story, all things that I either meant to do in London or right when I got back, that I quickly discovered were not going to happen at all, while there, especially while in limbo there.

If you are considering going to Hurricane Who this year, you should be aware of this summary of the situation currently surrounding the 2010 and 2009 conventions before registering or booking at this time.

I feel I need to note my ongoing "Did RTD lift EVERYTHING from Angel for Torchwood?" thing isn't really a criticism. Mostly, I'm charmed by seeing what I perceive to be innate fannishness in the Torchwood narrative. Like retcon, there's something really hilariously charming about being able to read Jack/Ianto as an Angel/Wesley AU with better clothes.

I think, where that feeling particularly struck me is that whole thing where Wesley messes with that girl with telekenesis about her dad and Angel is all "you need to go!" and Cordy's all "you can't fire him" and Wesley is all "I get it; I'll be at my flat" (a flat which, you get the impression, he doesn't see that often). It's a great moment, and one that really feels the most like Torchwood so far, even if it's one of the least obvious places the more recent show pulled from. But I can't stop thinking about that scene and how the answer to "how can this scene be a higher stakes AU?" gets us to "Ianto's banging Jack while hiding his half-robot girlfriend in the basement" "Cyberwoman."

What's particularly hilarious, of course, is that I'm watching this in the wrong order. I think if I'd watched Angel and then Torchwood, I'd be like "oh, influence" as opposed to "OMGWTFBBQFANFICTIONRTD!"

Speaking of there only being seven plots in the universe, Buffy -- the Dawn plot-line really reminds me of The Fifth Element.

Dr. Laura Erickson-Schroth is writing Trans Bodies, Trans Selves and is taking questions from New York Times readers. Additionally, there is a survey for trans people and non-gender conforming people that's part of the process of the book being put together.

It's weird, I was totally shipping Angel/Wesley when I watched the first two seasons of Angel, but I didn't really think of it in terms of Jack/Ianto parallels (though I could of course see the paralles between Angel and Jack, and between the two shows in general). Perhaps its because my (subjective) impression from CoE was that RTD didn't ship Jack/Ianto at all (quite the opposite), so I didn't really think that he would have used Angel/Wesley as an influence there (because Angel/Wesley comes across quite strongly to me).

Yet, I did find writing my Jack/Wesley crossover very easy -- it felt quite natural to do so. When I was absorbed in writing it, I pretty much forgot that they were from different 'verses, and it seemed impossible to me that I had never seen them on screen together... so perhaps this is yet another case of my conscious mind being completely disconnected from my subconscious mind as far as CoE is concerned.
