So, today I have this rolling, pretty unpleasant pain in my other side, right equivalent where the kidney stone pain was on the other side.

It's not constant, coming in and out. And it's not TERRIBLE, but it's ughy and weird. There's no way the cat scan would have missed a stone on the other side or another stone could have developed in a single week, is there? Even if I wasn't really drinking enough water in the UK because I was running around like mad and sweating because it was so hot there, right?

Weird Pain Paranoia.

Too Right!

Doubtful that another kidney stone could've developed in a single week, even under that sort of stress!

Could be that the kidney itself was complaining about not enough water and running around like mad in sweaty-hot weather, I don't know.

Most likely the kidney is just reminding you of the need for more water. If your paranoia and the pain persist, you can also call the dr/hospital who did the cat scan and ask if someone has time to pull your record and see if anything else was noted about your other kidney that you 'may have missed hearing due to the pain meds.'

Good thought. It might relieve the anxiety at worst.

Best part? It's a phone call.

I like the simple.
After spending way too many hours playing Scotty to a suicidal sump pump's recalcitrant dilithium crustal alignment, I'm good with our lives being simple.

I hope it's not another stone!

Highly doubtful, but drink tons of water now. Your system was probably just taxed and your kidneys grumpy.

If it persists tomorrow, call the doctor.

The CT scan should visualize both kidneys as it takes cuts of the entire abdomen. (btw, did you have the urge to look at the "do not look at the light" warning? Because, yeah, there's a laser pointer there.)

It's possible you may be passing smaller amounts of grit (think the size of sand) that one may not see on the CT.

I would start drinking lots of fluids today, and if you still have a Rx for Flomax (generic name: tamsulosin), there would be no harm restarting it to dilate the ureters to make it move faster. Also start panning for gold again. (Fun, I know.) Analyzing what type of stone is of the good.

And if you keep having these symptoms, you may need a referral to a urologist to have a larger work-up to see if you are prone to frequent stone production. if that's the case, there are things--diet and/or medicine--that be used to reduce the risk of reoccurance.

And if you are miserable, call your regular medical provider's office before the end of the day. There are some things such as non-steroidal injections that can be done in a non-urgent care or ER setting that won't knock you out but could alleviate the discomfort.

Hang in there.

Being someone who is at risk for developing stones as a result of my own delightful condition, I can tell you that I know the paranoia and the pain you are having all too well and that, almost without exception, it is merely that my body is telling me to drink some god damned water and stop over stressing it.

Sadly I don't know enough but is there any way to contact the doc that read your scans to see if he/she can look at them again to be sure?

Besides the other good advice above, there's also the chance that there is still residual swelling in both kidneys from the stone passing.

My husband recently had a kidney stone, and he had pain in both kidneys a few days after passing the stone, and panicked... the doctor said that in his case, because it was a pretty large stone, both the affected kidney and the other one were swollen, and that sometimes the swelling doesn't recede "smoothly"...

In other words, sometimes while the kidneys are healing, they will swell up and get painful again as a part of the healing process.

Obviously, if the pain/discomfort continues or gets worse, call your doctor.
