stranded
Right, so Patty and I are currently shacked up in an airport DoubleTree watching True Blood thanks to massive thunderstorms in NYC that canceled our flight (but not before we sat on the tarmac forever and other fuckery).
Currently, I'm a little verklempt about the kitties, who we left on their own for this trip (as we often do when we go away for a few days). Now granted, they had plenty of food and water (and we left the toilet open just in case) and it wasn't super hot in the city over the last several days, but it's still a bit of time, and then extra 16 hours isn't thrilling me. Reassure me folks?
Also, ways in which I'm able to access Jack Harkness as a character when I write fic include:
- not looking remotely my age
- the weird relationship I have with the great lawn in Millennium Park
- airports, airport hotels and completely travel fuckery.
I suppose, at least it's not a volcano. (ETA: and yes, darlings, the vortex manipulator is still in the suitcase).
Goddamn.

Once, way back when Nina was my roommate, she went to Japan for a couple of weeks with her father & stepmother. Leaving behind her two cats. Now, I'd been her roommate for awhile and the two cats- Pippin (father) & Cameron (son) had already picked out which human was theirs (I was Pippin's & Nina was Cameron's). They were use to me feeding them. But when Nina came back, Cameron, who was not that affectionate toward me, made a very big show of rubbing up against me when both of us were in the same room. Like he was telling Nina, "She's my favor human now."

I'm sure your kitties will be fine though, cats are very resourceful. You'll probably come home to find them chillin in the toilet or something. :D

Kittehs should be fine. They'll greet you with a steely, 'oh are you back? I didn't notice you were gone' and then they'll be mad at you for a few days. But that's cats for you. They'll be fine.

At worst, they'll be a bit hungry when you come home. And you may find that they have left you surprises out of indignation.

After all, it's all your fault for leaving them alone. How else were they supposed to amuse themselves?
But physically they'll be fine. Don't be surprised if they ate ALL the food.

This morning she comes strolling in like she owns the place while I'm stumbling around like a half dead zombie.

I once asked a neighbor to look in on my felines while the fam was on vacation. My cats have an automatic feeder setup that holds 5 pounds of kitty kibble and one of those water cooler things, because they've never cared to eat on a schedule. She never bothered to look in on them, so my two were on their own for ten days. They apparently drank from the toilets when their water ran out. They were fine, if pissed off because no one was there to dispense treats, scritches, or catnip. Didn't speak to me for DAYS!

Mine has this *look* he gives me whenever I've been away, a combination of "Oh, you again?" and "WTF? I thought you were EATEN!"

Random aside: I passed by the Harkness Memorial State Park in Connecticut this weekend and thought of you.

I'm so, so curious about this. Care to share?

I'm lucky enough to have a catsitter I trust who has a copy of my keys. I definitely recommend finding someone you can trust to be your emergency cat care person, just in case. I can't tell you how much peace of mind it brings knowing that I can call her if there's an emergency, or even just if I'm stranded somewhere and I want her to check in on them.

Swank fucking hotel.

the guests, though, stayed in the hotel across the way - can't remember what it was called, but they were having a wedding reception in the bar where we ran into GDL (and the wedding party wore kilts! it was awesome)
