stranded

Right, so Patty and I are currently shacked up in an airport DoubleTree watching True Blood thanks to massive thunderstorms in NYC that canceled our flight (but not before we sat on the tarmac forever and other fuckery).

Currently, I'm a little verklempt about the kitties, who we left on their own for this trip (as we often do when we go away for a few days). Now granted, they had plenty of food and water (and we left the toilet open just in case) and it wasn't super hot in the city over the last several days, but it's still a bit of time, and then extra 16 hours isn't thrilling me. Reassure me folks?

Also, ways in which I'm able to access Jack Harkness as a character when I write fic include:

- not looking remotely my age
- the weird relationship I have with the great lawn in Millennium Park
- airports, airport hotels and completely travel fuckery.

I suppose, at least it's not a volcano. (ETA: and yes, darlings, the vortex manipulator is still in the suitcase).

Goddamn.

The kitties will be fine. However, they will take it out on you to get treats.

Once, way back when Nina was my roommate, she went to Japan for a couple of weeks with her father & stepmother. Leaving behind her two cats. Now, I'd been her roommate for awhile and the two cats- Pippin (father) & Cameron (son) had already picked out which human was theirs (I was Pippin's & Nina was Cameron's). They were use to me feeding them. But when Nina came back, Cameron, who was not that affectionate toward me, made a very big show of rubbing up against me when both of us were in the same room. Like he was telling Nina, "She's my favor human now."

I worry about the cat when we leave him too, but cats are smart and resourceful and will be OK.

Augh that SUCKS. Though hopefully you got a free night in the hotel out of it?

I'm sure your kitties will be fine though, cats are very resourceful. You'll probably come home to find them chillin in the toilet or something. :D

Since it was weather and not their fault, we only got a discount. But hey $61 for the Doubletree ain't bad.

Cats will be fine. We routinely leave ours, with sufficient food, water, and litter, for five days or more.

Aw man, sorry for the delay! That must be really frustrating.

Kittehs should be fine. They'll greet you with a steely, 'oh are you back? I didn't notice you were gone' and then they'll be mad at you for a few days. But that's cats for you. They'll be fine.

Cats: they might hiss when you first walk in the door, but they'll get over it.

They will complain bitterly, then purr.

The cats will be just fine. Ours has survived for about as long, if not longer without anybody around. They're resourceful. Cats will eat most anything if they're hungry enough. Bugs. Potted plants.
At worst, they'll be a bit hungry when you come home. And you may find that they have left you surprises out of indignation.

Do you have indoor plants? Don't be surprised if they decide to pay you back by uprooting them or knocking them over.

After all, it's all your fault for leaving them alone. How else were they supposed to amuse themselves?

But physically they'll be fine. Don't be surprised if they ate ALL the food.

The cats will be fine - we got back from 4 nights away last night and one of the cats had obviously decided to punish us for leaving by not coming home - or even coming within a block of the house because her tracker collar wasn't picking up. So spent all last night not sleeping properly listening out for her coming back in and getting more and more convinced that the reason her tracker wasn't picking up was because she'd bee.

This morning she comes strolling in like she owns the place while I'm stumbling around like a half dead zombie.

The catses will be fine, though they might complain at you for leaving to begin with.

I once asked a neighbor to look in on my felines while the fam was on vacation. My cats have an automatic feeder setup that holds 5 pounds of kitty kibble and one of those water cooler things, because they've never cared to eat on a schedule. She never bothered to look in on them, so my two were on their own for ten days. They apparently drank from the toilets when their water ran out. They were fine, if pissed off because no one was there to dispense treats, scritches, or catnip. Didn't speak to me for DAYS!

You have the worst luck with planes. I swear every time you head towards a runway, Loki cackles and rubs his hands in glee

I'm sure the cats will be fine, but they will punish you for leaving them without staff for so long.

Mine has this *look* he gives me whenever I've been away, a combination of "Oh, you again?" and "WTF? I thought you were EATEN!"

If you want I could look in on the kitties today but that would require somehow getting keys to your place. Let me know.

Random aside: I passed by the Harkness Memorial State Park in Connecticut this weekend and thought of you.

If I knew. There's something about the layout of the space and the stuff near it coupled with the view it gives of Chicago's skyline when you're lying down in it that just has this weird "and here we've preserved the plants of the planet from which this colony came." It's a very evocative space for me of fake future and exile and it gets my story ideas going.

Cats are resilient--they'll be fine, although I'm sure highly offended!

I'm lucky enough to have a catsitter I trust who has a copy of my keys. I definitely recommend finding someone you can trust to be your emergency cat care person, just in case. I can't tell you how much peace of mind it brings knowing that I can call her if there's an emergency, or even just if I'm stranded somewhere and I want her to check in on them.

yeah! our room was really nice - of course i'm used to, like, motel 6 with mysterious bedspread stains and no towels!
the guests, though, stayed in the hotel across the way - can't remember what it was called, but they were having a wedding reception in the bar where we ran into GDL (and the wedding party wore kilts! it was awesome)
