  • Patty comes home this week!

  • So at my fitting on Sunday, I also need to talk serious business to Seyta about my tux. Which, aside from making lots of decisions, basically means I need her to talk me down from my "I'm afraid I'll look like a waiter" fears. As if, in something that's a) $$$$, b) custom, and c) explicitly from the first half of the 20th century in cut and style.

  • I think I just solved the major structural block on Kali and I's fantasy novel project. Now we just have to solve one key plot issue, and I think we can finally fucking write this. (YES, YES, we figured it out, WE UNBROKE THE NOVEL!). Oh Greg and Val, I have missed you! Meanwhile, I think I am getting more EtGB from her today, which means we're getting closer to you all getting Chapter 3, but we're probably still a couple of weeks away. I'd like to have it out before Dragon*Con, although we'll see.

  • Article on gay men being attacked, beaten and murdered in Iraq.

  • From the departments of WTF?!?!?, Get The Fuck Off My Team, and This Is Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: someone compares watching Torchwood: Children of Earth to getting raped. Actual rape survivors tell her off (this is seriously triggery) but get told in response they just don't love Jack and Ianto enough. While there is some widespread speculation that this person is a troll: 1) that doesn't make this less revolting and 2) they've had the journal for over a year, so I actually think they are sincere in their batshittery.

  • From the department of embarrassing enough to make me scream: brief cover email to the personal essay I sent in over the weekend? It's one late-night giant typo of incoherence. Luckily it's only a sentence and doesn't really matter, but I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT.

  • Photos from the most recent issue of Torchwood Mazagine. Excuse me, I'm having a moment.

  • A campaign has been launched to get a posthumous apology issued to Alan Turing, brilliant mathematician and WWII-era codebreaker, who received an OBE for his efforts. His conviction for homosexuality in 1952 effectively ended his career, and two years later he committed suicide at the age of 41. The laws under which he was convinced were repealed in 1967. Over 1,200 people have now signed the petition for an official apology for Turing's prosecution. If you are a British citizen or resident, please consider doing so.

  • Men in Afghanistan have won the right to starve their wives if they do not acquiesce to them sexually.

  • Women in combat aren't causing the collapse of civilization -- rather, they're making the army work better, even if all sorts of rules have to be circumvented to get them where they're needed.

  • [livejournal.com profile] estelofimladris, who in my head I refer to as "West Coast Jack" (I'm East Coast Jack), just posted these fucking fish and they are MESMERIZING. You could disable nations by getting them to stare at these things (click your mouse to feed them).

  • Oh, there will probably be more later as stuff comes to me.

Sadly, this dress is cut 1.5" smaller than the size listed on the site says, and will not fit me, because while I'm quite slim, I do not actually have a 23" waist (although I suppose there are underpinnings that could make that happen).

So, I still need a "I'm only cosplaying in my head" dress for Dragon*Con. I'm currently considering:

    a) this or this, although I worry a little about how the red would look on me.

    b) this because OMG. It also seems to be not in stock yet. Which is a potential issue if this is really about D*C.

    C) this, eventhough I shouldn't because it's expensive and gives me conflicted feelings about the orientalist decor of my grandparents's house in my childhood, which is one of those things I should take the time to write about.

    HELP ME INTERNETS!

Also, why is it every, single time I find the perfect retro dress with white and navy blue polkadots, it's immediately not available in my size?
