Oh man, tonight's episode = SO GOOD. SO SO SO SO GOOD.

While everything with Aria has been pitch perfect, this episode in particular almost had me in tears. Everything I ever tried to learn as a fencer is here. It is everything what I did was about or pretended to be about, and it made me miss it. It also made me angry -- at myself and people I've fenced with. Because this, being that little girl, _that's_ what we were fucking playing at in such serious nasty ways with each other. And we can talk about honor and skill and competence and Not Today (and that's such an amazing lesson when you learn to really feel it) all day long, but man, what a reminder of the darkness and bullshit that drove so many of us to try to be really good at what were doing.

Anyway, one of the things I truly love about this show is the deep emotional weight that gets attached not only to every plot, but while making every plot seem like the freaky B-plot only five people in fandom care about. Every story feels just a little bit secret and marginalized, and it builds an amazing whole that way.

Littlefinger is COMPLETELY, COMPLETELY the type of character I would sell my soul to play, but there aren't often female characters like that.

Also, man, Tyrion is the most amazing thing EVER.

Did you know this one was written by George RR Martin?

Arya Stark = awesome, I've thought that since I first read the books. (And yeah, back when I was a crazy fencer-person...she's what I wanted to be.)

My husband just finished the first book in that series...

He really likes it!

I love this show so much. I would like to be articulate about all the reasons, but honestly, I just watched it and I'm still kind of OMG! about it.

I will say I held my breath the whole first ten minutes. That scene may be my favorite of the series.

But you're right about each thread being so quirky wonderful. I don't think there's a character that I don't have a strong feeling about, and considering how many characters there are, that's saying something.

So with you on that! It's one of the few times an adaptation of a book I loved does it justice.

Arya's plotline is my favourite as well -- identification material squared! And I also love Tyrion madly.

Littlefinger... Well, Martin has the amazing ability to write scary, horrible people and make you sympathise with them anyway, which I utterly admire.

And of course I'm crossing my fingers you'll get to play someone like him sometime!

Just finished watching it, and yes, Arya's scenes were beautiful. I'm still wondering what's going to be in 9 and what's going to be in 10, but the handful of extra scenes work out beautifully.

Have you read the books? I'm halfway through the second one in the series. There is so much awesome coming, you have no idea.

And Tyrion Lannister is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite characters.

As someone who's read all the books, let me say: "There is so much awesome coming, you have no idea."

As someone who's read all the books, let me concur with both of you and append: "There is so much AWFUL coming, you have no idea."

Awful things artfully written though, which is a rarity.

are you planning to read the books? i picked up the first one after the first episode of the series, and have been zooming through them.

I love Arya, like all right-thinking people. :-) I just named my character in Dragon Age: Origins after her, then found out she had a giant highly intelligent dog and a plot line that was full of GoT parallels.

i love this show. i may not be able to keep a lot of things straight or catch everything because there is so much, but i love the richness of it. it's not cutting things and simplifying it from the books (which i really need to add to my reading list); it's dropping us into this world revealing more of its intricacies piece by piece
