Yesterday, while we were out, someone smashed a window in our bedroom, that isn't even over the fire escape, with a baseball bat. They did this with so much force shards of glass were embedded in a wall on the other side of the room.

Our laptops and ipods were stolen.

We're fine, the cats are fine, the work loss and the replacement costs are huge. And ther was an amazing adventure with an unccoperative super and trying to buy ply-wood at 11pm on a Saturday.

We're also going to be trying to break the lease and move ASAP.

So that happened.

We're exhausted, headed to pride and then (for me anyway) the Apple Store.

Dear Lord. I'm so sorry it happened. The loss of your work material is tremendously frustrating and awful, the uncooperative super makes moving the only logical thing to do (if, you know, the actual theft didn't put it in that category) and the force of the blow (glass in the opposite wall? Christ on a crutch) somehow the most frightening thing.

We all need a place to call home and feel safe in. May things go smoothly in finding a place and replacing all that is physically able to be replaced.

I'm guessing you didn't have a backup of any sort? It's not a guarantee, but I so, so recommend one: physical, online/cloud, whatever. I usually worry more about natural disasters or drive failures than break-ins, but backups don't care about the cause.

Oh god, the cats! That's my worst nightmare, that something should happen to my cats in a break in.. I'm so glad your bbs are okay, and so sorry for the loss of your laptops :(
