Events of the day make it seem as if I am not getting better, and will have to get tests done. I'm pretty fucking alarmed, but also trying to figure out why this whole thing is making me so hysterical.

Meanwhile, the window people _swear_ they're coming on Tuesday. We'll see.

Maybe because being that sick *is* freaking scary, and not knowing why or what you can do about it just makes it that much worse.

I don't know if this'll be helpful to you or not, but when I could eat nothing else, I was able to eat baked potatos (plain) and iced coffee. YMMV, obviously.

Sending you lots of "feel better soon" vibes.

Are you able to drink things like gatorade or pedialyte (pedialyte is much better, and they have flavors that don't taste like ass, now)? As long as you can stay hydrated and keep your electrolytes balanced, you'll be fine for a long time without food. See if you take some chicken or vegetable broth for the salt, too (you need it to retain some of the fluids you drink).

My sister wasn't able to eat for about three weeks when she had pancreatitis.

I don't even know what that is, but it sounds scary (pancreatitis).

I can hold food down fine, it's just dealing with it after that. The doctor said I could keep taking pepto as much as I needed to -- I hadn't for three days, I guess it wore off, so I took some again and things seem to be calming down again.... *sigh*. I've been managing toast, gatorade, applesauce and yogurt. I'm just wondering if I'm fucking dying of something is all.

Well I googled that -- no pancreatitis here. My temperature is/was normal and I'm not puking.

Seconded on the broth, you can cook white rice in it and it should sit fine. Also, white rice is "binding" which might be helpful depending on your complaint.

extraordinarily. My doctor said not to even try rice until the end of the weekend, but when I first got ill I had it without trouble,so I might. I'm also thinking the dairy and sugar in yogurt might be upsetting me, so I'm thinking of buying acidopholus capsules and just taking those and going back to applesauce and toast. I'm also wondering if miso was a bad idea or a good idea.

Oh, dude, if you're having yogurt have nothing but plain, and lowfat if possible. The sugar in flavored yogurt is bad news and the dairy is already iffy, active cultures notwithstanding. The acidophilus might give you the benefit of the bacteria without the heaviness. It won't do anything bad to you, at any rate.

If miso sits with you, it's a good idea. If it sluices through like a Canadian luge team, it's a bad idea. The broth part is good; the soy, iffy. When I am sick like that I sometimes crave it - the saltiness is also good for you.

You can cook the rice in extra broth so it's really wet. Also get no-fat chicken broth if you don't want vegetable, as any greasiness might aggravate things.

Other things you can try: Saltines with a scrape of jelly, and bananas, if you can stand them. They are mild and nonacidic and the potassium in them will help rebalance your system.

Things you can look forward to when your system is slightly more stable and you are bored to tears with toast and applesauce: peanut butter on toast, and avocado sushi (potassium, rice, nori = good).

I'm sorry you're still miserable. Argh.

(This long reply was brought to you by twelve days of solitary food poisoning suffered in England while everyone else was on Easter break.)

Oh man. I'm so sorry to hear you're not getting better. I am sending you many "get well soon" thoughts as well as "David Thewlis playing doctor and making you all better" thoughts.

I want to second the gatorade/pedialyte electrolyte balance advice. And don't forget bananas.

And I hope you feel better soon.
