Christ- I'd rather see Brian de Palma do it.

I'd rather see Michael Cimino do it.

I don't know that particular book, so I can't comment on that, but what is your objection. He's definitely experimental, but both The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were brilliant films that used young actors exceedingly well. I only saw the first HP film, but if he directed it, I'd be highly inclined to see it.

I really dislike the structure of his movies, and I feel like he would try to shoehorn HPB into the structure, to the detriment of the story and characterization. And HBP is the HP book that deeply, deeply matters to me. Also I feel his own habits in the portrayal of women would collude horribly with the way JKR writes women to make them even less real and meaningful than they already are in the HP universe.

I didn't see The Village, but his other three films all had fairly similar structures and if that structure would not work with the book, then that would be a serious problem. As for his portrayal of women, largely he doesn't, which is as much a problem of American cinema in the action &/or supernatural genres as it is with him. I'll know more about that after I see ,em>Lady in the Water, which will the first of his films I've seen with a major female character. Then again, it's also likely a good thing that Terry Gilliam is also out of the running, since I think he is vastly over-rated for anything but dark but ultimately pointless humor.

The Village is actually his only film worth watching as it has some interesting points and filming techniques.

The rest are just pants!

That has very much not been my experience. I thought The Sixth Sense was utterly and amazingly brilliant (despite my having figured out the plot twist from seeing the trailer and not even knowing it was supposed to be a surprise until I talked to other people), and Unbreakable was close to it. In contrast, almost every official review and every person I knew who saw The Village said it was dismal. Signs was a fascinating but also flawed film about faith

Oh dear, we definitely do not walk down the same side of the street when it comes to films... he he

I found Unbreakable to be one of the dullest films ever, weak character development, unnecessary scenes and a blatant twist jammed in at the end.

The Sixth Sense is so, so overrated and also with a weak twist that was more than a little obvious, even for those not seeing the trailer.

I have many issues with this film but my main one is why the boy never had the misty breath when talking to Willis (oh, because then you'd figure out the twist earlier!)

The Village was an interesting critique of modern-day U.S.A. and allowed the wonderful Bryce Dallas-Howard to shine in one of her better roles.

Great soundtrack too!

Nice to bandy comments with you though and I like your icon too!
