Dear Torchwood Fandom,

I am as much about Jack/Ianto as many of the rest of you, BUT, perhaps you have not noticed, these are two really fucked up people in fucked up circumstances with a distinctive disinclination towards monogamy.

So, can we please stop writing fics that involve Jack cooing over how adorable Ianto is? or making him breakfast in bed? Or saying "I love you" every two seconds?

BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT THOSE GUYS. Even in happy ending fics (which I like), even when they are taking comfort from each other (which is probably how it evolved out of Ianto trying to get Lisa into the Hub) and even when they're in love with each other (which I can totally buy).

Ianto is both weirdly innocent and incredibly fucking devious and generally pretty at sea and FILLED WITH TRAUMA and also tough as nails. And Jack is actually out of his goddamn mind. And immortal (more or less). And a huge slut. And a very manly man. Mostly. And also, FILLED WITH TRAUMA, and I don't mean screaming girl trauma for either of them, okay?

So, please, pelase, please, people, let these characters be into each other on their own terms, not your unimaginative heteronormative romance novel crap.

Also, didn't we learn anything about sickeningly cute and character inappropriate nicknames from the Harry Potter fandom?

I think those are written by the same people who hate Gwen because they see her as some kind of threat to Jack/Ianto. I'm reminded of why I only read very few fanfic authors.

See, I hate Gwen but that has nothing to do with Jack or Ianto (who are cool) but because she's a crap actress and a crap character.

I go back and forth on Gwen. Certainly she's supposed to be our viewpoint character, but as I'm neither that dumpy, earnest or clueless, it doesn't really work for me. She does at least approximate a functional human being though (interpersonal relationship cowardice aside), which the show could certainly use.

Well in season two she becomes a 'I shout a lot when I'm stressed therefore I am a good actress' kind of character...

You'll love her then!

I think that she is poorly written ... She has a lot of potential as a character, I feel that the writers short-changed her.

But admittedly, what really made me sick at her is somewhat ship-related. She's making eyes at Jack at her own wedding?? To Rhys, who is pretty much the best catch ever, considering what he has put up with from her ...
I found her annoying before then, but that made me really dislike her.


I should note that I have not seen all Torchwood episodes, though.

Ditto, or you are so very right about that. If the writers/showrunners weren't so intent at telling us how AWESOME she is and that we MUST LOVE HER (and despair), perhaps I would dislike her a little less.

I think she cemented my dislike in the last few minutes of Countrycide: SHE has to talk to psychotic cannibal guy, because SHE HAS TO KNOW WHY, WHY!!! What d'you mean why? That's life, shit happens - I thought she was in the police? What, she's never come across horrible crimes in her oh so illustrious career, or is Cardiff the 21st century version of Mayberry?
Actually, I'm sick of her and Rhys - we get episodes worth of analysis of their relationship/marriage/baby plans, while Jack and Ianto get 3.5 seconds in the fucking greenhouse (where did that greenhouse come from, anyway?). If I wanted to watch a hetero couple (cos the camera lingers on them, but rarely stays with the gay/bi couples) scream at each other, break up, make up, and scream some more, I'd watch Eastenders!

Ha! It's the same thing I thought when I watched "Countrycide". She is a cop, she had seen a lot of shit. Cannibals should not flip her out all that much. But what I really and truly hate is that she is cheating on Rhys... and yet it's all fine, forgivable and understandable. Oh, poor marture Gwen! So sensitive!
