Just listened to the Torchwood audiobook In the Shadows and man, was that ridiculous and satisfying.

But then! Someone had to go and link me to this: http://tinyurl.com/l8u2nu which arguably contains implied spoilers for Children of Earth that are really fucking distressing even if I've been saying for months that Ianto is not going to die and the rumour mongering is just the usual fan wank and drama.

Really, it's so ridiculous. Hello, I went through the Snape thing. I was ready for that. I'm only bummed his death wasn't more epic (snake bubble to the head? really?). But Ianto! Not my favorite character, but the one it would definitely break my heart to see go. I'd analyze that for you all, but it's so hardly necessary I'd like to pretend to keep my dignity on the subject, but NOW I'M REALLY FUCKING FREAKED. And can't, apparently, stop listening to really depressing stuff on last.fm.

Trauma!

No killing Ianto. It is against the rules.

I can't believe how freaked out I am. Because seriously, that track list look grim, unless there's a whole plot ruse that involves his supposed death (or, if, as has been speculated, the glove comes into play again).

with that bit of maturity out the way: Not only was Snape's death gratuitous (if telegraphed), it MADE NO SENSE. He's a frigging POTIONS MASTER who's been working around a giant frigging snake for MONTHS. And who has, in fact, previously constructed the SPECIFIC antivenin for THIS snake, because he bloody well fed it to Arthur Weasley two books ago. He REALLY doesn't have a holdout vial? Come ON.

ARGH!! Apologies, but I just HATE laziness that creates plot holes of that size.

Not that this couldn't turn out to be a Doomsday type thing, where Rose's "death" wasn't quite what it was thought to be during the lead-up, but even so. Do not want.

I am strangely calm about this.. but I think it's only because I have talked myself into accepting that this will be the last season of TW. Therefore any death won't matter, because it will not carry on without Ianto or Jack.

Of course, if it gets picked up for another season AND Ianto is dead.. well, that just isn't acceptable.

I have a really strong feeling that Ianto is going to come out of the series alive, even if he dies (if Supernatural fandom has taught me anything, it's that main characters can die right in front of you and still come out of it looking sexy) or is believed dead at some point. This is apropos of nothing, of course, just a gut thing. And because I haven't freaked out about it yet.

Now if it's true I'm going to feel like an asshole. :)

This OST... don't want it... really, what the hell?! If he dies there's no way the show can go on, this isn't Doctor Who!

I actually got into a major argument with a friend about how the show would suck without Ianto and my friend said that they're just shaking things up like in Doctor Who and that I'm only upset because I like Ianto best and don't want him to die.

Not sure how the two are mutually exclusive, but meh. The whole structure of Torchwood is different. They already killed off half the team... I'm... *wibble*

I'm actually fairly calm about it. I think I've talked my way into an "I'm okay with it if he dies". Still don't quite think they will pull that trick because death is such a cheap way to do things. I read teh tracklist and read the TWU discussion and think it is probably a 'we will think he is dead' but I remember seeing Tosh getting shot without having been spoiled about it, and just sitting there and watching it, and going, 'wow, she just got shot, just like that, fuck'. So I'd be actually surprised if he died just because there is so much speculation about it. I like to think that Torchwood makes its deaths surprising with a sort of cold hand, a wrong step and not a dramatic setup (clearly my sense of dramatics is impaired if I don't count Owen's final deat has dramatic). But Tosh simply got shot, and Owen simply got shot (initially). There was no big music, there was no big 'OMG what is going to happen' it just happened.

But then - Ianto could certainly kick it, but hey, I *am* fairly calm about this, I think.

The fact that there's a track at the end called "Next Time On Torchwood" makes me REALLY REALLY HAPPY, though.

MOAR! S4! Because a five-part miniseries thing is not an acceptable ending and I want more. More more more.

As for the other tracks, they could indicate people THINKING someone has died, or a number of things. It could be Ianto's dad. The ballad theme could be Ianto mourning. It could be him thinking Jack has really bought the farm this time with some horrible death we know about from the first trailer and mourning that. Which could explain the emo-looking promo pics.

Um, some of those track names are downright terrifying. I refuse to accept the possibility of Ianto dying. Maybe they THINK he died. I buy that. "He Was a Good Man," though??? And "Ballad of Ianto Jones" following "Requiem of the Fallen?" Oh fuck, I'm scared. No no no. Nope. Can't kill him. I can't even handle Ianto dying in FIC.

I can't be really confident about this without hearing the full tracks, but it's notable that "He Was a Good Man" doesn't have any of the thematic markers the two Ianto tracks have, but does seem have thematic markers that mesh with the Gwen tracks.

If the BBC are being a bit casual about these things, then I wonder about the British Censor rumour that didn't have Gareth listed in episode 5. As a Ianto fan, I don't want him to die. As a Gareth fan, I want a full 5 hours worth. But of course I don't want either rumour to be true.

I thought that rumour was actually about episode three or something and was debunked as being meaningful because all sorts of important people got omitted from such listings during the first two seasons and the British Censor board thing is notorious for being lame like that.

I do think it is extraordinary to release a soundtrack with these titles on. Unless they aren't as clear cut as all that. I freaked when I read them, and all along I haven't trusted RTD as he is very open about not caring about fans, and never listening to them, and that he loves to kill off characters. However I think he has been pushed into decisions before for more commercial reasons (makes me laugh so much when he does the behind the scenes and pretends it's all creative, I loved Burn Gorman so much for actually stating the obvious about Martha being shoehorned in, when RTD sat there and went on about how it was always meant to be etc)

Anyhow deviating, but I think my point is that if it doesn't make commercial sense, (surely it doesn't, god knows I have a lot of gay friends who watch for the Jack/Ianto, and are not fannish, casual viewers but won't bother with the Jack/Gwen show at all, they don't watch Dr Who), then I wonder if it's more likely to be an RTD style Deus ex Machina? Please not the glove though.

Well, I like Ianto, but couldn't there be another male love interest for Jack after Ianto?

I mean, even if Jack and Gwen are the last two standing, there's no guarantee they'd ever be a couple on the program.

Maybe Gwen will get a girlfriend. :)
