  • Today started with me accidentally snapping my favorite pair of glasses in half.

  • Now I am trying to figure out what to wear to the CoE thing today that DWNY is going.

  • Last night Patty and I saw Public Enemies, which I thought was a film that had no idea what story it wanted to tell and examined too many aspects of the story in deeply curosry ways so that they were disturbing but without viewpoint. That said, the use of music in it was spectacular (what was the guitar track that's also used in the previews? so great!); the performances were all amazing (although I wish the actors had been given more to do, and there's something hilarious about Billy Cruddup playing Hoover); I always forget how much I enjoy that mid-century patrician accent you barely hear anymore that was all over this film; and people, the aesthetic brilliance of the film (oh the suits!) was amazing. So I had fun, and I'm glad we went and romantic dinner afterwards didn't hurt either.

  • What hurt? CoE preview at the movies!

  • I find all the fan protests to be really uncomfortable and many of them I find to be really disrespectful/obnoxious as an artist myself. But I gotta say, don't care how crazy it is, the people leaving flowers at the Torchwood tourist office site? Kinda sweet.

  • I can't believe I snapped my fucking glasses in half!

Agreed. I'd love to play along with some of it, but 90% of it is as much about directing anger at Gwen as it is showing support for Ianto, and I can't go there. Aside from the fact that it's no character's fault, if they're right, and RTD really does have his head so far up Gwen's posterior, you think ripping on her while asking to get Ianto back is going to HELP?

In the end, it's still a fiscal and logistical decision. Will the BBC find the ratings good enough to fund it and also HAVE funding? (the major downside to taxpayer funded television, commercial TV finds a way if there's ratings, taxpayer funding has more obligations to balance). Will RTD remain involved from LA and/or hand it off to people in Wales to keep it going? If they could write Ianto back in, would GDL come back or will he have something else obligating him by then? And JB's schedule is notoriously full. It's about both characters together, not just one.
So many moving pieces, and that's all forgetting the world that was left behind for the show after CoE ended. It would be a radically altered world, or one in complete denial, and I'm not sure I could enjoy either.

Frankly, even though I'm still in the bargaining stage of grief (GIVE me the tired cliche, bring him back with crappy handwaving, damnit, what else is the Doctor for!?), in my moments of lucidity, I do feel it's probably for the best that it ends now. We can't undo CoE. Best I can hope for is denial, and the sad part was - as you've said - they acted the hell out of it, so it's not fair to them creatively to ignore it completely.

Really?! I'm not really a Gwen fan, but I thought her character got the respect it deserved in this go and she finally became the strong, intelligent woman she was always supposed to be. I'm honestly still mind-boggled at all the hate for this series. I haven't been reading too much in the comms, although I did just see someone get some nasty responses over on [livejournal.com profile] torch_wood when s/he suggested a series 4 petition, and I've seen some general bitching on [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt, but I just don't get how fans of the show can look at this week and think it was anything short of amazing. So your character died; mine did too, but IT WAS GOOD TELEVISION.

This. I've seen a lot of American fans saying "I heard what happens and now I'm not going to watch, I only watched the show for X so if X is gone I won't watch WAHHHH" They're going to be missing a hell of a series.

My poor Australian friend's aunt updated her Facebook status to say that Ianto died and now she is PISSED. Not pissed that Ianto died, but pissed that her aunt did that. I swear some people shouldn't be allowed on the internets.

I'm glad I didn't wait, though, because inevitably I would have been spoiled, and I don't get BBCA anyway...and I'll be out of state when it's airing. I'll just get the DVDs the following week.

No, I completely agree: Gwen finally came into her own. There's just some people who won't accept that, and it seems like that's still coming out in the "save ianto" comms. They're starting to back down some, though, I'm noticing.
