  • Today started with me accidentally snapping my favorite pair of glasses in half.

  • Now I am trying to figure out what to wear to the CoE thing today that DWNY is going.

  • Last night Patty and I saw Public Enemies, which I thought was a film that had no idea what story it wanted to tell and examined too many aspects of the story in deeply curosry ways so that they were disturbing but without viewpoint. That said, the use of music in it was spectacular (what was the guitar track that's also used in the previews? so great!); the performances were all amazing (although I wish the actors had been given more to do, and there's something hilarious about Billy Cruddup playing Hoover); I always forget how much I enjoy that mid-century patrician accent you barely hear anymore that was all over this film; and people, the aesthetic brilliance of the film (oh the suits!) was amazing. So I had fun, and I'm glad we went and romantic dinner afterwards didn't hurt either.

  • What hurt? CoE preview at the movies!

  • I find all the fan protests to be really uncomfortable and many of them I find to be really disrespectful/obnoxious as an artist myself. But I gotta say, don't care how crazy it is, the people leaving flowers at the Torchwood tourist office site? Kinda sweet.

  • I can't believe I snapped my fucking glasses in half!

I quite liked Public Enemies - I thought it was beautifully shot, loved the soundtrack, costumes, design, etc. Depp and (French actress who played the GF - brainfail) made the movie. It didn't completely carry me away though, there were moments of boredom, so I give it an A-.

The TW protests - I have to say, I cringe when I read about people's plans for ComicCon. It's not going to make a lick of difference. I agree with comments above - if he's going to bring Ianto back, it was because he planned to all along and probably for nefarious reasons. The Writer's Tale is full of quotes about detesting online fandom opinion and how art isn't a democracy, which James Moran dittoe'd in his blog post today. I do hope RTD talks about the decision process at ComicCon though. I guess he talks about it in the Declassified, haven't watched it yet.

If I see a pic of flowers at the TW tourist office, I'll probably cry. What else is new.

I haven't seen any plans, but RTD has left the BBC and gone to Hollywood, so it certainly would make no difference, he won't give a toss.

I think campaigns and flowers are lovely if they are a positive way to direct energies. It's nice to let the BBC know (and it will be theirs to decide now) how loved the show, and Ianto are. If JB gets his way for the next season, well then Ianto could very easily be back and it would work well. Given that JB thinks it should be a few mini series exploring TW at different times. Great idea, Jack would be the constant, bring back the Victorian crew, do one about them. Bring back Gerald and Harriet, one about them. There could so easily be a mini series set before CoE, with Gwen and Ianto, or even the whole team. Would never work as a full 13 part season, not at all, but for one story, one adventure, why not? (Very Sherlock Holmes this, but that worked.)

So I guess my point is, campaigns bought Spock back, and Sherlock for that matter, and if they do follow JB's idea, well it certainly won't hurt for Ianto to be in their minds. (But not via mentally unstable people with death threats, that is a shame, but then those people exist in all fandoms I guess, and they won't like them, but know better than to take them seriously, believe me)
