I don't know much about it. I just followed the trail. There is someone involved in his little LJ group who I see on some of my friends lists, and who says in her LJ info that she writes fanfic.

I think this person doing the not-really-academic survey has his own bone to pick and is trying to stir things up. I hope that he's an aberration and that the other people he associates with aren't involved.

But reading his racist story excerpt, and seeing his comments on slash, I think he seems rather vile.
