And I thought I could be formulaic at times...

(but only because keeping a formulaic approahc in mind is the only way I can finish the gorram outline and get to the actual WRITING...)

And there are whole sections of publishing on writing devoted to each of those steps.

That's like summing up being a mathematician into two steps: Learn the four basic math operations, and learn to combine them to do stuff.

As an overview it is not too bad. Style, plotting, pacing, character. (Or something similar).

Taken on it's own, though, it's about as useful as "Make the horse go where you want it to and don't fall off" for learning how to ride.
