Why is [livejournal.com profile] ogi_ogas the maintainer of something that purports to be an SFF critique group?

It looks like a small just-them critique group (a very useful technique), not an attempt to start a nightclub.

His writing sounds pretty dreadful by the excerpts here, and it says some interesting things about his relationship with writing fiction (and thus other people's relationship with writing FANfiction). But while I wouldn't leave it unlocked, I'd love to be in a three-person critique circle.

I do hope that people will manage to keep their (well-earned) venom directed at the actual problems with Ogas' community interactions and at most how his writing relates to those problems. I cringe for any writer whose work gets raked over the coals nonconsensually,* no matter what else they've been getting up to.

* Yes, it's public, but not exactly widely propagated or declared finished. No, he clearly didn't put it out there with the expectation that over a thousand enraged self-appointed beta readers would rip him a new one.

That said, the race-fail and misogyny of his fiction, as well as the existence of his fiction do have interplay with how he has treated the fanfiction community.

Yup. Hence "how his writing relates to these problems." I want to see him held accountable for his opinions and biases, and his fiction is illuminating for those.

Just... we've gotten to the macro point. People get mobbish, and no one looks good if people start veering off into ad hominem. Making fun of someone's poorly written fiction is nearly up there with threatening their pets, emotionally speaking.

Agreed. And as much as I'm annoyed he locked stuff down, his cowardice just saved us the moral high-ground. I love when peopel can't strategize their way out of a paper bag.

Seconded.

I interpreted the lack of members as more of a slightly suspicious setting for a hive mind, but I see your point.
