you can't make this shit up

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1218880/One-gay-man-lesbians-legged-cat-poisoned-curry-plot.html

One gay man, two lesbians, a three-legged cat, and a curry poisoned with snail pellets.

Completely true and Everybody Lives! (more or less, there's a death in the backstory)

*boggle*

There's a drama queen joke in there somewhere.

Dear Lord have mercy.
kaffy_r: The TARDIS says hello (RenjiRukia WTF)

My beloved looked at that and said "It's a Shel Silverstein Song!" It made a certain sort of skewed sense.

[identity profile] nisaa.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
And then there was this article that a friend told me about yesterday:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1218651/Thugs-attack-men-dresses--turn-cage-fighters.html

[identity profile] kindkit.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Reading the whole article made me kind of sad, actually. The guy's partner died a few months ago; I wonder if he went a bit mad, as people often do in those circumstances, and the attempted poisoning was the result.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
See, and I wondered if the guy poisoned him with something more effective than snail pellets.

[identity profile] kindkit.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I wondered that too. But assuming he didn't, then I'm sad.

[identity profile] browneyedgirl65.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
My thought, too. (That he killed his partner.)

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
THAT is exactly what my first thought was.

That's a really hilarious British mystery movie waiting to happen. All that's missing is the quirky detective.

O_O

Between this and the creep who made that 11 year old cry for wanting to save the local public library I'm having to work very hard to remember that not all people are bad people.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
But someone rescued the three-legged cat. (an old boyfirend of mine had a three legged cat named Binky. He was the best -- the cat, although the guy was a decent fellow).

[identity profile] imaginarycircus.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
I was so relieved about the cat and that the women were OK after the slug pellets.

I always looks for lost cats when I see posts up in the neighborhood. I never find them. :/

The American Beauty subplot that didn't make the final cut- Scott Bakula did it!

You win!

[identity profile] maryling.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
[The cat] was found three miles away being cared for by a woman who had taken her in.

Bless!

As someone with a three-legged cat, the adoption made me happy.

I can't help but wonder if this story would sound as bizarre if the focus was taken away from the sexuality of the people involved.

[identity profile] tsarina.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I think so. Having been the victim of out of control, hateful neighbors in the past, I think that's the true weird factor in the story. It could have been siblings or two hetro couples or just rommates and you'd still have a crazy guy trying to poison someone's curry.

[identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's the numeric thing that makes it great. Like 1 crotchety old man, 2 newly weds and a three-legged cat would have worked just as well.

Good Lord, they're having an exciting time in < a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/7959993.stm">Denton this year (the boys were acquitted, incidentally, when the jury decided that on the basis of all the other stuff in their diaries they were just teenage fantasists blowing off steam.

But, seriously, this is major, major breakthrough stuff. The Daily Mail is Britain's most hate-filled and bigoted middle-brow tabloid and, apart from the fact that they mention everyone's sexuality to give it the hint of the exotic for their readers, everyone including the perp is given a level of human dignity (including the neighbour commenting what an awful time the couple have had, and putting the mitigating circumstances of Stewart's lover's death in there) which would have been inconceivable from that paper even three years ago. And I think a whopping part of that is the TW/DW factor at work.

This. I guess that I should not be surprised that my mother is so racist and so on when I know that she reads this "newspaper" every day and has done since I was a child.

Surely a plot to a New Queer Cinema movie! Or an off-West End musical at the very least.

(I also think he may have poisoned his partner).

[identity profile] amberite2112.livejournal.com 2009-10-09 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
anyone else notice this happened in Denton?
the home of happiness?

[identity profile] natf.livejournal.com 2009-10-11 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Completely true

Well, it *is* the Daily Mail and so has a certain 'spin' on the truth at least… ;-p
