No, not true. Any and all legislation must past constitutional muster (otherwise we'd all descend into chaos pretty quickly). Now, if the constitution itself is amended via proper process that becomes another issue. (And state constitutions must comply with the federal constitution).
So, no, really this is a perfectly appropriate ruling, within the entire judicial and legislative process of this country.
