do "happy birthday!" tweets count as cards? because I did one of those this morning. though I have actually sent a celebrity a birthday card, too. (as part of a larger "being encouraging and supportive of you making a new record" care package. I don't know if that's better or worse, or if that they had specifically asked their fans to send them random crap is a mitigating factor.)
also my answer of "eh, it's a thing" doesn't really convey my feelings; I'm not proud, exactly, but I'm not embarrassed either. I think "wryly amused" is closer to it.
ETA: 1) I actually don't know Elvis or Bowie's birthday w/out looking it up and 2) I also have that characters birthday thing. Though by characters I really mean Harry Potter and Severus Snape. I used to know the Marauders birthdays', too, or at least Lupin and Black, but I've forgotten them now. Snape I still pause and mentally wish him a good year; Harry I don't care so much anymore.
I believe I've happy-birthday-tweeted both Grant Imahara and Adam Savage, but I don't actually know their birthdays, because they're not personal friends, and thus that information isn't really deemed worth saving. I can always look it up, you know? It's not like I have to plan for it.
