- Stuck in the middle of like a bazillion pieces of writing.
- Doing other work now.
- I really need to let myself actually be engaging the Patty countdown.
- We are having tech fail -- she's having problems with her laptop, ipod and Nook. I meanwhile can't find my fucking iPod.
- Ugly scarf: http://yfrog.com/h779853133j Scarf aside, gosh, I look cute. Sorry, I have to be vain when I've not had Patty around to remind me that I actually succeed well amongst the other humans.
- Twitpic was made of so much fail today.
- RSVP'd for a bridal shower we were invited to. Have I mentioned this? We got the invite, and it's a friend of Patty's I've only met once, and I literally was like "wait, why am I invited, this is for girls?" And then I was like "Oh, I'm just confused again." I've never actually been to a bridal shower. I hear there are terrifying games involved.

Date: 2011-03-30 12:15 am (UTC)At best they are boring, since you sit and watch someone else open presents. At worst, the humiliating games.
Avoid.

Date: 2011-03-30 12:16 am (UTC)Oh god, bridal shower nonsense. Hopefully it will be reasonable and just opening presents, eating snacks.

Date: 2011-03-30 12:22 am (UTC)Granted, the pic of my Mom preggers with me with a stupid bow-hat on her head is pretty hilarious, especially with the unimpressed expression on her face. :)

Date: 2011-03-30 12:24 am (UTC)However, I recently went to a bridal shower that was in a sweet little tea shop. No games. Just tea, coffee, salad, quiche, cake and pie. Not bad. No suffering involved.

Date: 2011-03-30 12:34 am (UTC)I think because Blurt (which is HILARIOUS) is too east to typo to Kurt's dad's name. That's the nice answer. The not nice answer is long and involves fandom stereotypes about tops and bottoms and what character they like better.
Personally, I really, really, hate the name elision thing in general (although I did have a fondness for the hilarity of Gwack for Gwen/Jack in Torchwood) so I keep trying not to keep saying Klaine, but I think I keep doing it anyway.

Date: 2011-03-30 01:13 am (UTC)I am however fearing a baby shower that I'm supposed to attend at the end of April. I'm getting the bad game vibe off of the person planning it.

Date: 2011-03-30 02:29 am (UTC)My personal favorite was the one for my dearest high school friend, who was getting married in India, and specifically asked us to plan something small, just for our little group, that would be our own thing - our way of celebrating the moment of transition with her, even though we wouldn't be able to be actually with her on the day. So we made the stupid practice bouquet, which she found both baffling and charming, and had tea and cake and sandwiches, and it was overall quite delightful.

Date: 2011-03-30 03:49 am (UTC)The only shower I remember attending was a baby shower. I remember it because I was running around the side of the house (at age ten or twelve) and WHAMMED into the not-quite-high-enough cement side of the house. BLOOD EVERYWHERE and I forced my cousin to go inside and not panic but to GET ME AN ADULT NOW PLEASE.
So I am pretty much naturally dubious of all showers.

Date: 2011-03-30 09:33 pm (UTC)I was going to comment on bridal showers but now I have to point out that it took me a good two minutes to figure out that the little chibi-Darcy was merely wearing fashionable buff trousers and was NOT giving his famous speech sans pants.

Date: 2011-03-30 10:53 pm (UTC)I have a very different experience. As a child I grew up with the practice of making it as a hat, and it was explained to me as a way to honor the guest. I really loved making the hats and wore one at my bridal shower, as I expected. It was nice for me to have that expectation fulfilled.
Could the difference perhaps be regional?

Date: 2011-03-30 11:00 pm (UTC)My four year old cousin helped me open the gifts, so I was explaining things to her. Afterward, there was an embarrassing game of reading the things I said when I opened gifts as though they were things I would say on my wedding night. The game broke down when they realized how creepy it sounded.
There were some underwear & handcuff gag gifts, which was embarrassing around relatives.
My relatives made the invites women only. A genderqueer friend came with hir male boyfriend. When male boyfriend was asked to leave, genderqueer friend got upset. It was a strange situation. I'm closer with male boyfriend and it's never come up.
The best wedding shower was my aunts, to which I wore 8$ skintight pleather pants. And at which I bent over. And had the back seam split completely. And at which there was a lovely older woman with a sewing kit in her purse. And I tucked a napkin into the waistband to cover my butt, and then went and sewed my pants in the bathroom. #best
