- fencing tonight

- work

- tired (now it sets in)

- Palin. Must write about Palin.

- Would someone please call Torchwood about this?

- speaking of Torchwood two things:

1. Out of Time is a bloody stellar episode. It's extremely well-written to the acting talents of the cast, and the show even when it is well-written (which is certainly not always the case) doesn't always write with the strengths and weaknesses of its performers in mind. Pretty much a perfect episode though.

2. Okay. I now know at least two people who have ordered in pizza as Torchwood. Seriously? I still feel guilty when I have to give a fake name because my real one is too hard for them to get a handle on. I feel like I'm missing out on some common insanity. Do you give the pizza people strange names and in-jokes when you get delivery?

Where does one begin to write about Palin? She's her own bloody three-ring circus....

I know.

I guess my main things I want to cover is why, while I feel very bad for her daughter (who I am very concerned is being coerced into this marriage), I do believe her family is a valid, open topic and also what's best for the Democrats in this clusterfuck of a situation.

What's best for the Democrats is exactly what Obama's been doing: Wishing Bristol the best, and telling his people that she's off limits.

What the press and pundits do is on their own heads, but the Obama camp will do well to steer clear and not rise to such tasty bait.

Oh, absolutely. But my point is, should we be rooting for Palin to step aside (highlighting McCain's inability to make a good judgement call) because of the various scandals (her daughter being least among them) or hoping that Death by a Thousand Papercuts is more useful?

Well, whatever happens to or with Palin, McCain is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

If he drops her like a hot rock, he demonstrates that he made a poor choice and anyone he picks after that will be screwed by extension. And Gods help them if they have skeletons in their closet. (Although Palin's seemed to be on her lawn like flamingos, so hey.)

If he keeps her, well, then he's showing he's committed to sticking to his choices, no matter how awful they are. And going by the last eight years, apparently we like that in this country, so who knows.

I'm pretty proud of that one, I have to say.

Ooh, I could never order pizza as Torchwood! We have a close and loving relationship with our pizza delivery people. I know they have a computer that tells them what we've ordered when we call them, but I like to imagine they know us and are sort of fond of us and our weekly orders. Damn. Now I'm going to have to order pizza as Torchwood from some inferior place that doesn't know me...

Oh, where to START with Palin. I think McCain is doing her the kind of favor Bush did for Harriet Miers when he put her up for Supreme Court. I do not like her one little bit, yet I feel sorry for her and her family and her hapless daughter.

That THING you linked to is going to give me nightmares. Probably in the next fifteen minutes, because I had periodontal work done an hour ago and just took a Serious Pain Medication.

We don't give weird names to pizza people, but sometimes when we sign in at a restaurant and it's very crowded, we leave the name Batman. They can't pronounce our last name, and "Ryan" gets confused with other Ryans and with Brians. But when they come out and say "Batman, party of two" there's no doubt it's our table.

"Out of Time" was pretty cool, but "Random Shoes" is still my favorite. I've ordered pizza as 'Lemony Snicket' but never as Torchwood because I'm too afraid they'll get the reference.

...also, if McCain drops Palin, the religious right will take it as a betrayal, and they will enthusiastically sit on their hands come Election Day. McCain can't win without support from the evangelicals; that's why he nominated Palin in the first place.

I confess, I haven't been looking, but I'm curious to see what the flag-wavers have to say about her Secessionist leanings. It doesn't get more anti-American than that.

Out of Time was really good, but my favorite season 1 episode is still Countrycide.

Not necessarily. If *she* resigns, citing personal reasons or whatever, McCain is then absolutely free and clear to choose someone else, avoiding a floor fight at the RNC. Which would have absolutely happened if he had gone with either Lieberman or Ridge, which two he absolutely preferred to anyone else.

I feel terrible saying this as a Jewish person, but Lieberman? Still a Jew. Also ran with Al Gore. That's never gonna fly with the Republicans even if it means Palin's gone..

Ooh, good point.

I don't think she'll resign, though. If she resigns, that's it, game over. She'll never work in politics again. Not that I think she'll have much of a chance after this last week *anyway*, but if she walks away from this, it'll be her and her guns on her porch in Alaska. That's it.

McCain's gonna have to be the one to make the choice. Gosh, is that a terrifying thought.

HAHAHA.

I feel like that should be in an Adam Sandler song. A political version of The Chanukah Song, if you will.

I'm catching up! I'm alternating between ordering Torchwood on Netflix and buying episodes on iTunes. Now I can say I've seen Out of Time (on Monday night) and I agree with you. It's a really great episode. I wonder if any of the female characters will make another appearance later on. I enjoyed getting to see more of Owen's character and the 'real men moisturize' line cracked me up.

My sweetie Joe has been waiting for me to catch up to him so we can watch Season Two together. He'll show me the last two eps of Season One this weekend.

If she resigns, everyone will believe it's because McCain (or the party apparatchiks) told her to resign. And McCain will have to choose someone at least as right-wing as Palin to replace her, or there'll be another floor fight.

"Jack?"

"Hm?"

"There's a bastard huge spider on the side of a building in Liverpool."

"What, again?"

Ahem.

I'm agreeing with a lot of the "Palin writes herself" commentary. I have a lot of trouble actually looking at who she is directly without going completely batshit angry. She's like a perfect storm of "WTF?!" for me. Cynical political choice on McCain's part? Check. Pot v. Kettle on the 'experience' issue? Check. "I won't discuss it until I know what the VP does?" Check. Orwellian double-speak on the issue of reproductive choice? ZOMGITHINKIJUSTBURSTINTOFLAMESCHECK.

I think...I think I need to lie down.

Regarding pizza-as-Torchwood, it's virtually always delivery via the internet. I've never had someone get the reference that I know of, but I also have a Torchwood decal on the back of my car, so maybe they assume I'm running a business or something. Then again, I'm not really that fussed about the fake name thing either. I just think it's funny, especially if I do it on episode nights, or if I'm wearing a suit when I do it.

Possibly, but he can claim that wasn't the case. And after the RNC, no floor fight :)

I dunno. Just speculation on my part. I'm just still gobsmacked at the lack of vetting. I expected a more religious type VP choice for obvious reasons, but this?

Christ, I wish I was in Liverpool.

As to Palin ... I'm at a complete loss for words, and that's rare. I wonder in the back of my mind, late at night, if McCain (and his campaign advisors) are either secretly insane (well ... that's another issue, really) or just want to throw the election. Because ... OMGWTF?!

Will we be seeing more Torchwood fic from you soon? ::pleads::

And ... no, no fake names here for pizza. We have one and only one place that will deliver, they're down the road from us, and they not only know us by voice but I typeset their menus. So, um, no. They'd decide I needed medication and then yet another rumor about "that crazy lady in town" would start. Like I need another one. (Strangely enough, what passes for normal in a city [getting lots of courier packages, FedEx boxes, and working with books for a living] = crazy lady, when living in the country. Sigh.)
