Mar. 18th, 2008 08:29 pmApparently LJ has decided not to communicae with LJ users because that would reward bad behavior.
I think that's the "no, really, fuck off and stop using our site" message we were waiting for.

Aside from outraged, I'm really quite unutterably sad.

Date: 2008-03-19 01:23 am (UTC)Certainly, I can't give these folks another cent. But LJ works like shit if you're not a paid user and I don't want ads on my journal.
IJ is the closest thing in tmers of features I like, but it doesn't have the critical mass for networking.
I have no idea what to do, and figure I have a month to figure it out (when my paid account expires).

Date: 2008-03-19 07:55 am (UTC)LJArchive is also a good way just to create an easy back-up of your LJ on your hard drive.

Date: 2008-03-19 05:16 am (UTC)How stupid and/or desperate do we have to be to try to run our own LJ-alternative out of our back room, anyway? My other half can handle the servers, I can handle an abuse team and finances... but it's still completely crazy.
Gah.

Date: 2008-03-19 07:22 am (UTC)As for the interest-blocking, to my knowledge no one has had their interests deleting, and given the range of interests that seem to no longer show up on searches, I'm far from convinced that this is anything other than a bug. I'm annoyed that if it is a bug, SUP hasn't just said so & or fixed it. However, in the scheme of things, they're doing vastly better than SixApart and their randomly deleting journals and communities.
I was on the verge of giving up my paid account with SixApart, and was saved from that choice by the sale to SUP. At this point, I see absolutely no reason to stop having a paid account. If I see anything like proof that the interests-search bug is an actual decision, I might change my mind, but for now, SUP are at most a mildly annoying and somewhat clueless corporation, and not (as SixApart was) a corporation that bows to fundy scare tactics and abuses its users.

Date: 2008-03-19 12:24 pm (UTC)So calling advertisers doesn't happen and is ineffective?
So...mass deletion of LJ accounts happened because..?
And SUP/6A is an innocent victim in all of this? Is he serious?

Date: 2008-03-19 03:01 pm (UTC)y'know, even if boycotts/mass migration don't work, that's not really the point, at least for me. It's their company, within certain very broad limits, they can do what they like with it.
I just don't have to play along.
